Sad news for sure. There is a YouTube piece I wish I could find of him playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at a tribute to George Harrison.

Many think it is one of the best live guitar performances ever!

There were shots of smiling Harrison family members in this. Word is, they (family members) urged Prince to extend the solo from offstage.

Thing is, A good song can be presented in many ways, reflecting the interpretation of the performer.

For kicks, take a look, sometime at what Kenny Rankin did to this piece. Then, look at the interpretation by Jake Oshambu (sp?), the uke player.

This is why I stay in this business.

Here's a really nice version of Purple Rain by Etta James.

What a solo. RIP Prince. Whether you like that kind of music or not, he was one of a kind artist.

I never cared much for Prince's music. BUT........I have to admit he was some h**l of a musician. And that ride he did on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was incredible. I didn't know he had that kind of "emotional maturity" in him. He certainly has MY respect now.

A true genius of his era. Played keyboards too and most of the instruments on his recordings. Self taught which is really amazing. Watching a special on him I never knew all the Philintropic work he did behind the scenes and withoput fanfare.
I'll be doing a Wedding Monday and decided when its time to hit the dance music I'm going to open with 1999 in tribute.

On Thursday evening, the day of his death, I made a spontaneous little recording with the BK-9, an instrumental version of "Purple Rain", no rhythms, completely live including my new midi bass pedal. I was very impressed of 'Purple Rain' during my high school time in the mid 1980s.

My little tribute to Prince:
