Your headline really got me excited! Too bad. I'd love a compact version.

I am officially no longer your friend! wink

Sorry about raising false hopes wink I had hoped for a SonicCell successor last year already, when new modules were announced. They turned out to be those AIRA modules instead...

It's ok. smile

I have absolutely no interest in those AIRA modules, either. I've been waiting for years for Kurzweil to come out with a PC3 module. I wish Yamaha would do the same with a Tyros module.

Oh, well. One can wish!

I had the opportunity to buy a used Kurzweil PC2 module in December from a member of a German forum, with the orchestral expansion included. I was so close to buying it, the owner was quite annoyed when I eventually cancelled it.
The Kurzweil owners have told me that most of the symphonic sounds are still identical to the PC2 series. The strings just have additional articulations. Of course, if you add the KORE expansion, there are new brass sounds etc.
In the end I just didn't have a very good feeling considering that the entire orchestral expansion has an incredibly tiny waveROM of 16 MB. It does sound quite realistic, I checked demos over and over, but I also found some opinions saying that the Roland SRX 04 strings are a bit more realistic. I decided that probably the difference between the best of Integra symphonic sounds and this Kurzweil expansion are too small to justify purchasing a rack that could be 15 years old and soon have some defects.

I think you made a good decision. Why spend the money if it's not really worth it for you? Sometimes, our desire to acquire something new leads us down the wrong path.

Who knows? Maybe, Kurzweil or some other manufacturer will come out with something very worthwhile soon. In the meantime, you have a great selection of gear for strings & orchestral sounds (Integra-7, Libraries for MoXF, etc...).

Here are demos from Kurzweil's Orchestral ROM block from the K2000. http://www.synthmania.com/Orchestral%20ROM.htm

Here, you can listen to Roland SR-JV80 Expansion Boards and :
http://www.nathansheldon.com/xp-80/expansion-board-demos.html

You may already know about these two sites, but others may not be aware of them, yet.

FalgorOne has many more demos of his PC3, including of the new Artis SE. I think I posted these here a while ago, but it doesn't hurt to refresh our memories.

I hope you find some great gear for strings, and when you do, please let us know! smile
