Just kidding! I've known Don Mason for more than a decade, met him right here on this site, then drove nearly 2,000 miles to see him perform at Earnest's in LA. He has always been a positive role model in the time that I have known him personally, and he has influenced me to always, as much as I could, to perform my songs better each time I do them.

A few weeks ago, he presented me with another challenge, which he usually does about once a month, a song that pretty much describes both his life and my own when it comes to making a living as a musician and entertainer. (He's the musician - I'm just an entertainer.) He posted and emailed me his rendition of the song, and last night, while I had the keyboard in the office, I fired it up, selected a style, then went to work on that song. Here's my rendition of Tonight I'll Kick The Footlights Out Again.

Tonight I'll Kick The Footlights Out Again

Thanks Don for being my friend and inspiration for all these years,

Gary cool

You are too kind sir, and slightly full of BS, but that's o.k. smile
I think you did a fine job. Love the guitar sound.

Great rendition, Gary:

Merle would be proud. I agree, Mason is a "bad influence" but what would we do without him? (...and you, Donnie, Uncle Dave and so many other regulars like Deane and George Kaye...)

Nice, Gary ... but not knowing the song, I have to admit to having a little trouble understanding the lyrics ... of course, I didn't do much better listening to Merle's version either ... laugh2 ... wasn't until I heard George Jones and Merle sing it together that I figured out the lyrics ... grin

Carol told me the hearing was the third thing to go, right after the mind. Sure wish I could remember what the fist thing was. wink
