Hi to all.
Just interested to know how many of the 7000 owners have added an extra SD card and what sizes? I have found a UK web site that has a 128 mg on sale for £44.93 and this is cheaper to buy 2 x 128mg than it is to buy 1 x 256mg. Do you find it more use to have 1x 256 rather than 2x 128's?
Regards
P.B.

Hi Peter

I bought a 64MB card on the Internet for £32.

Thought I would try that size first and then see how much I put on it

Hi Peter,

I did an analysis of about 70 floppies used with my 6000 to determine average file size. It appears that the SD software addresses up to 99 folders each with up to 20 files. On this basis I determined that the 128MB SD card is about optimum for me at the moment. No doubt this may change as I use more of the new capabilities of the 7000.

Cheers
Len C.

P.S. I did try and send this info earlier but it appears to have got lost in cyberspace. If it appears twice this is the reason.

Hi Peter,
to my opinion it is a better statement: how many files do you want to save on a SD-card. It depends on the way files are saved and the character of the song. (did you saved the files with all options, or with only sequencer or only the panel memories? How long was the composition? etc.). So, when you save a file, pay attention that you only save the needful options/setting to the SD-card. Otherwise you waste a lot of space on the SD-card. (See page 2 of the save-menu).

Also here it's important to wonder: what files are really needed to save on the SD-card? I don't use my SD-card as a storage for all my styles. That would be an very expensive solution. Therefore I use my computer/CD-roms.

Be aware of the fact, althought on a 128 MB-card you can make 99 folders, it does not mean that you can fill them all with 20 performances!!
As Joan says it costs less to start with a smaller one to discover if you need a big card (the smaller card could you use anytime later on)
Greetings,
Cees

Peter,
I quickly found that the 8Mb SD card that was supplied with the KN7000 was entirely too small for a performing musicion. I bought a 128Mb card which seems to have sufficient capacity at this time.
Since the number of files that can be stored depends upon what type of files you store, I'll give you an example of what I have on my card so far.

1. 800 .CST single custom files from the KN7000 web site plus others.

2. 63 .AST 20 song custom files.

3. 111 performance song files. Most of these do not have the sequencer saved.

4. No MIDI or music files.

For the above, 51Mb is used out of a total storage capability of 120Mb.
I hope that this gives you some guidance.
Regards,
Walt

Hi Cees,

As I indicated, my estimate of the requirement of a 128MB SD card as being about optimum for my usage was based on my storage of files for the 6000. This took into account the fact that I only save those files for required for a particular song. Sometimes it is only sound memories or pads. Other times it may include all of the standard files saved using Page 1 + Midi Settings and All Custom Styles. If one were to save all possible parameters for every song file you would need a card bigger than 512MB to save 99 folders each with 20 songs.
Yes it is a valid approach to start with a small card and see how it goes but I feel it is equally valid to look at your individual usage to determine the optimum size card. On Australian prices 128MB SD cards are somewhat cheaper per MB than the smaller cards.

Cheers

The going price for a 128 in Florida is $39.
Seems rather cheap compared to the amount of floppies I have aquired.

Thanks to you all for the info. Much appreciated. I've decided to try a 128mg and see how it goes. That Florida price is a pretty keen price.
Thanks again
Peter.

In the states read the Sunday Sales Fliers from Staples, Best Buy, CompUSA etc. You will see the Sandisk 128 for $39 and change. Two of these will probably be all I will ever need.
When I look at the hundreds of floppies I have accumulated over the years, SD is a great cheap tool for storage.
Thanks Technics,

Fran in Florida
