Hi folks,a question for KN6000 owners,I know that files in general are not backwards compatible but most software companies list 6000/6500. but will the 6000 load a 6500 file? I only have access to a KN7000 so cannot check myself.
Hope you can help regards John.

Hi John,
I'm pretty certain that a KN6000 will load KN6500 files. The two instruments were very alike and in fact, there was an expansion module made available for the KN6000 to effectively 'upgrade' it to a KN6500. Think it was a EW01 or something like that.....

Hi John,

Bill is absolutely right, they are almost the same instrument with just a few sounds between them. The expansion board Bill mentioned is the EW65NX and basically gives the KN6000 the same sounds as the KN6500. The EW01 is the pop production board, which can add sounds to the KN6000, KN6500 or KN7000.

I would also add that these keyboards are so close to the KN7000 that it would make no difference to most of us. I know we love our KN7000s but at the price the KN6000 and KN6500 go for they are a steal and would be a perfect backup for those who are nervous about the age of their KN7000s!

They also have a great "sound editing" ball that, in my opinion, gives them better (easier) sound editing capabilities than the KN7000.

The best compatibility information between the Technics instruments that I can find is on the following page and I'll be keeping it up to date with any new findings:

http://technicskn7000.com/technics-instruments/

Further compatibility info is provided by Alec Pagida on Gunnar Jonny's site:

Best wishes,
Mike

PS. To date the compatibility chart says that the KN3000 files will load into many instruments but that the KN3000 can only load KN3000 software. I'm guessing that it is capable of loading more software than that, if anyone knows for sure please let me know.

Hi Mike the KN3000 can also load KN2000 software but not KN1000 unless it has been loaded in a 2000 and the re-saved on the 2000
Best Regards John.

The reason I purchased the KN7000 rather than a Kn6000 was the SD Card and therefore the speed of loading the next song settings...to me that was vital as a performer.

I'll second that Rog !! Also the inclusion of the USB link is a BIG PLUS....

During a gig when you've finally got them up on the floor 'dancing' -- waiting for the Floppy Disk to load the next song set-up is a BIG 'No-No'. During the LOAD time, they'll be off to the bar and ordered the next round and probably be half way through it, before the next song starts LOL !!!
