When I got my Tyros 5 it was broken right out of the box. It would play ok but the USB ports were faulty. Yamaha is replacing it for me. However, after playing on it for about 3 weeks I decided to not have a new Tyros 5 sent to me by my dealer. Instead I will soon have coming a 2nd S950 and a Korg PA900. I think for me and the type of music gigs I play this is a very good choice. I guess I have just outlived the desire to own a TOTL keyboard and many of the new features on the Tyros 5 just didn't fit well into my gig needs. I did not find anything bad about the T5 it just went in a direction I do not prefer. So now I have the best of all worlds - PSR950, Korg PA900, and a Roland BK-9. What's not to like.

I should mention how much help Frank at Audioworks has been in this process and how professional Yamaha was in dealing with me.

Deane,
you are my hero!
You have chosen "being" instead of having" and substance instead of appearance and for this deserve all my admiration.

Dreamer,
Thanks for the shout out. I started only 8 years ago with arrangers with a PSR3000 and was completely blown away by it. Since then I have tried many of the various keyboards and was very happy with the tyros 3 and Tyros 4. One day it dawned on me the audiences I perform for, All Senior Venues, did not require the TOTL product for me to give them a great performance. Where I live you can't go audition a keyboard so you end up buying sight unseen. I think the only manufacturer I have not tried is Ketron and that is due to their very poor customer service here in the USA. That leads to buying then selling some products. I think I am about at the end of that procedure and will be concentrating on improving what I do at gigs and my playing ability.

Are you going to gig on all three? Not sure I would make that decision, when ONE TOTL and some work would cover it, but I look forward to hearing how you deal with all that complexity (and utterly different OS's) on stage.

Diki,
I already have gigged with all three. Makes life interesting and puts off boredom.

Deane sounds like the right choice to me! I kinda did the same thing but went with the MOx6 with the PA900. So far, I like the Nano too - fits my small need.

It just seems so overkill for NH and older folks parties. On a forum where every gram of weight is abhorred in our gear, lugging THREE arrangers (plus all the support pedals, stands, cases, wiring etc.) around to do the job that ONE of them could do seems like such a case of diminishing returns.

Any of them CAN be wrestled into whatever shape we want them to be in (with work and perseverance), that simply seems like a whole bunch of work to lug around three, so you don't have to do the work and perseverance part!

But, no skin off my nose. I'll be interested to see how long you keep it up for, though!
