Hi folks,recently had a problem with the disc drive in my KN7000 it would only read and not write (save)on checking the drive is made by Alps of Malaysia model DF354H104F unfortunately Alps do no longer list disc drives.I checked the web and came across model number DF354H121F which has the same connection layout without jumpers,having spoken to a friend who is a computer specialist who said the unit fitted to the KN7 was more than not given it's own model number.I found that model number DF354H121F was easy to obtain from the web for around £10 approx.We fitted this and have found it works fine and is much quieter than the original. This information is given without any form of warranty but It worked for me.
One important thing is that the Alps drive is only 145mm long not the normal 150mm long, the Sony MPF920-F also worked well and is only 145mm long, but these are hard to find complete with bezel as the are often fitted to Del computers which have the bezel and eject button built into the case and not fitted on the disc drive unit.
