One of the T5 videos showed the iPad used with the T5. As a newb to Tyros, but preordered 76er, I don't know if the previous Tyros 4 had this, but it certainly would work for me for things like notation and other apps. This is from the Yamaha site:

For those who have i-MX1 and Yamaha synthesizers, there are lots of applications that will expand the functions of your instrument. Each App can be easily used just by connecting the instrument and iPad / iPhone with i-MX1 cable. You can edit the sound of Motif XF or MOX using the large display of iPad. Also the additional functions such as drum pad or arpeggiater can be easily added to your synthesizers.

Your MIDI instruments will be expanded with all the Core MIDI compliant Apps on the market. For example, you can practice the piano songs using a digital piano and Notation App, record your drum pattern using an electronic drum kit and music production apps, or play a variety of sounds using synthesizers and virtual instrument apps. All these combinations can be realized in many ways by using i-MX1 and instruments.

Actually, you don't even need the MX-1 or any other MIDI interface to connect the Yamaha arrangers to the iPad - just use a USB cable designed for printers and everything will work very, very good.

I've done this with the MOX, PSR-S950 and the T3.

Thanks for your input. What is the purpose of this Yamaha Tyros 5 accessory then? It's listed under T5 accessories.

Just to add: An iRig Midi has 'midi thru' as well as an In and Out. Plus it will charge your iPad while in use.

Thanks 124. I'm somewhat surprised that this is all the accessory is good for. But, if all I need to do is plug in an iPad or iphone directly with the USB charging cable it comes with, then, so much the better.
