Hi all. I wanted to make a copy of an existing SD card, so, using Fred's SD Explorer, I attempted to do so. All files seemed to copy over to the new card (using drag 'n drop). I checked the new SD card and all files were there. However, when I attempted to load them in the 7000, no files were listed. Figuring that I'd done something wrong, I tried again...same problem. What do you think? Bad SD card maybe? BTW, my "master" SD card loads fine (thank God, lol).

Not sure about the drag and drop approach - I seem to remember that the method was 'backup' and then 'restore', but maybe your method should work Jim...

Jim, the easiest way to do a TOTAL copy of a KN7000 SD Card is to copy the 'PRIVATE' folder on the original SD Card, directly to a new Blank SD Card.
If you're not sure how to do this, follow these steps :

Just as a precaution against 'accidents', Move the write protect tab on the original card, into the 'LOCK' position, before copying......

1. Insert the SD card to be copied into a USB Reader/Writer and connect to a USB port on your PC.
2. Access Computer/My Computer on your PC and you should 'see' the SD Card as a 'Removable drive'.
3. Double click on the 'Removable drive' and you should see a folder called 'PRIVATE'
4. Copy this folder to a location on your PC - for example your Desktop.
5. Remove the USB Reader/Writer from your PC (using the correct 'remove USB drive' procedure) and remove the SD Card from the Reader/Writer.
6. Right Click on the 'PRIVATE' folder on the Desktop and click on 'Copy' in the drop-down menu. (This copies the location of the target folder to the PC's clipboard)
7. Insert a BLANK SD Card (Capacity 2GB or less) in the Reader/Writer and connect to a USB Port on your PC.
8. Access Computer/My Computer on your PC and you should 'see' the new SD Card as a 'Removable drive'.
9. Double click on the 'Removable drive' folder to open it (should be blank).
10. Right click in the blank file area and click on 'Paste' in the drop-down menu.
11. The 'PRIVATE' folder will then be copied to the new SD Card.
12. When the copying process has completed, remove the USB Reader/Writer from your PC (using the correct 'remove USB drive' procedure) and remove the SD Card from the Reader/Writer.
Your new SD Card should now have an exact copy of the original.....

If you happen to have 2 USB SD Reader/Writer modules, then you can do a direct copy from the original to the new card, by pluging both Reader/Writer modules into 2 USB ports on your PC. Both cards will then show in Computer/My Computer as Removable drives and you can just Drag/Drop the 'PRIVATE' folder from the original card to the new card......

Remember, you CANNOT use SDHC cards on the KN7000 - only standard SD cards with a capacity of 2GB or less. Even a 2GB card will only be 'seen' by the KN7000 as a 1GB card, due to addressing limitations of the KN7000 system.

Hi Bill. Thank you, it worked like a charm. I have no idea what I was doing wrong when I used SD Explorer..you may remember that you had done a tutorial on how to use it, which I saved and was referring to in my original attempts to copy the SD card. I ordered four 2 gb SD cards from Amazon, they had them for a little over $6.00. The only cards available locally were 8 gb and they were SDHC, which I knew wouldn't work. Thanks again Bill. I now have a back-up for all of my Casino tunes that I can use in the 7000 I have at the house for editing, adding to, etc. We STILL have not done a new video that i could send you so that you can hear your sequences...maybe we'll get that done someday.

I agree with Roger, it's easier and quicker using Fred's SD Explorer tool plus you can also print an Index of Titles thus saving time when looking for a particular tune.

You can also move songs from one folder to another using the drag and drop method - great if you want to re-organise your gig programme.
