Depending on what you need a DAW for, but for me, I'm most happy with Zynewave Podium.
Have a look. They also offer a Free version.

As a midi sequencer MixCraft cannot touch PowerTracks...and for the most part they both do the same after the midi sequencing..

The advantage shifts to MixCraft...for what they give you in VST's and also MixCraft is a better VST player (wrapper)..

MixCraft also include their large loop library...and is far and away better if you use loops..

My choice since I prefer to seq on my G70....MixCraft..

That's interesting Fran. So how is the midi sequencing in MixCraft? I need a decent midi sequencer for my Juno-Di. It would be used in conjunction with the Di editor software to take the burden of my computers CPU.

I did however download the trial version of MixCraft (but haven't tried the midi sequencer yet). I'm very surprised at what all comes with the Home Studio version too. The included VST's are actually pretty darn good. I've been recording tracks using the included VST's and I'm grinning pretty big over here.

Thankfully I got a new computer too that's pushing 4 gigs of RAM, and it seems to be handling the VST's (even with effects processing) really well.

What limitations should I expect with MixCraft for midi sequencing (compared to Power Tracks Pro).?.?

FWIW, I would forget PT, and just go for the BIAB/RealTrax double.

PT pales into insignificance.

You get your sequencing in Realtrax, with the added benefits of using REAL audio parts, chord recogniton , a similar chord entry window to BIAB and it goes on and on, OR "standard" sequence track views...and then add ALL that can be done with BIAB and it is a great combo. imo

If you can afford the extra, then it really is a no-brainer..BIAB+ReaTrax

Of course there is always the price of PT to consider...it IS really cheap wink

If it were a ONLY between PT and Mixcraft - then Mixcraft all the way!!
