Small Combo was great, very enjoyable.

Col maybe you can help with a question. I had placed this on the KORG Forum, but no responses yet:

"I haven't seen the DVD set "Korg Arranger DVD Secrets" and I was wondering of those of you who have purchased this 3 DVD set do you feel the information is applicable to the new KORG Pa600?"

Any chance that you may have seen these DVDs?

depends on what you are trying to do. The DVD set is very comprehensibve and is good for the entire range of PA arrangers as abasic to intermediary introduction.

In the end I thought that too so I just ordered it from AudioworksCT.

Thanks for posting these demonstrations Col. It's really the only way I can get an idea of what this keyboard sounds like. The music stores in my area hardly ever carry Korg arrangers...

I agree you should Col ... this is much appreciated ... I think some of these styles have some great possibilities ... I really enjoyed the Intro/Ending of the 'George Shearing' sounding jazz ballad style ...

Can't wait for Frank to get one of these in his store ...

Question - on the ps600 is there a way to isolate the drums and bass to a different 'out' line to a separate input jack on a mixer? ... sometimes when playing with a duo it would be great to have the drums and bass louder than the rest of the accompaniment ...

PA50, 500 and 600 each have 2 audio outputs. Best you could do is assign bass and drums to left channel out, and right hand & accompaniment voices to right channel out. Depends on if you want a stereo mix.

You have to move up to PA800, PA2X, or PA3X (or down to PA80 or PA1x)) to get 4 assignable audio outputs.

Also on the volume screen there is now a dedicated button to take out either the drums/perc the bass or the accmp, so its easy to leave just the drums/perc and bass or any combination of the three.

You can also change the relative volume of the bass, drums, accmp in the global settings.

I think I would miss all the dedicated sliders on the PA3X. They have multiple functions, selectable a row at a time via a button.
Default is overall style volumes and lead volumes, such as Drums, Bass, style volume,Pads, RH1, RH2, Rh3 and LH. Second row is all individual style part volumes. Third row are the organ stops. The next two rows are all totally assignable for just about any keyboard function. Setups can be memorized in Performances and/or Songbook entries.
You can get screen view to see what adjustments you are making, or just trust your ears on the fly.
It's one of my favorite features on the 3X.

Totally agree with you Don having had the Pa2x I certainly miss the sliders but beggars can't be choosers I didn't want to pay out for a Pa3x at this stage. One good thing I am finding is the speakers, they function well as monitors. There is no doubt in my mind that for the money it's as good as you get (Mind you I am a bit of a Korg nut, this is my seventh) One thing I really miss is access to a volume control on the pads there is no really easy way round it.

I will say that when I'm performing live I have more than enough to do without messing with the sliders, bad enough changing variations and switching the harmony's on and off (yes I have started to do it having been badgered by your goodself and Donny many times in the past LOL)

BTW did you get your joystick fixed ?

Kind Regards

Col

I still haven't got the joystick fixed. It has been nearly two months and Korg informed me it will be another 4 weeks. And that was BEFORE the hurricane. No telling when.
I am really ticked off. As soon as I get the joystick part replaced, I will sell the PA3X, as much as I like it, out of spite.
I am terribly disappointed in Korg service.
I have been very vocal about how much I like the keyboard, and I will be equally vocal about the lack of service.

Hi Don

I think I posted in the past about my experience with Korg service which was very positive. I had the Pa2x problem with failing LEDs. I sent the board back to them they even sent a UPS courier there and back in a week.

Maybe the distributers are at fsult Korg UK dealt with mine and I bought the board on eBay second hand. Seems a real shame when you like the board.

Best of Luck

Col

Sorry to hear of your woes with Korg, Don. I don't blame you ditching them. In almost thirteen years I have to say that I've only had to call Korg Canada once. That was when I needed a switch for my EC5 pedal. Although they're 2,000 miles from here, they sent three switches no charge, and I had them within five days. Just lucky, I guess.
