I'm looking at the possibility of recording backing tracks

on my BK7 for use with my accordion for restaurant work.

I will need at least 30 tracks/pieces. My aim is to cut down

on Midi cables etc and leave my BK7 at home.

I'm looking for advice as to what type of media player I would

use on the gig and could it be controlled by a footswitch.

The recordings I've done so far are Wav files on my BK7 USB

memory. Do I need to convert them to another format or are Wav

files universal?

I'm thinking laptop computer or maybe an Ipod.

Any thoughts, anyone ?

Frank

Frank,
Are you running a Roland V Accordion or standard with midi? To me just playing midi, doesn't always sound real, if you know what I mean. It depends if you can make it work for you, thats fine.
Sometimes running Band in the Box on a laptop ( which is what I use with a set list made up), for the night can work for you. But you need more hands on to run it smoothly, may be nasty(awkward) with an accordion, not sure.
Running wav files or trimed down real audio files ( you take out the vocals and the lead part), then you play and sing over the music, can work. My daughter uses real audio files and trimmed them through Sonar Producers version, and she just plays acoustic guitar over the top. Don't know how she steps through her songs, though.

Thanks for the reply

I play an acoustic accordion with midi, I only use midi on my LH

with pure accordion sounds on my RH miked-up as a normal setup.

If done properly it can sound like an accordionist with a 3 or 4

piece backing band. I do edit my styles to the bare bones

taking away as much "syrupy" stuff as possible.

Hi Frank,

Just Curious, why don't you play styles from the BK7 on your left hand in real time and use natural accordion voices?? I do that quite often!

But if you want to play backing tracks, it seems to me that the BK7 wouldn't take up any more room or weigh any more than a laptop. You still have to have a sound system of some sort. You can start and stop the wav files via foot pedal on the BK7.

Don, I came to the same conclusion 3 days ago.

Thanks for your interest.
