I think he was battling a cold, still awesome. And a really good geetar player!

Sir Tom, Tiny Desk concert

You're welcome, Tony, I thought it was really cool. Haha, how often have you seen Tom Jones singing with one geetar player? Never! I have read up on him over the years and one thing that has stuck out about him is the power in his voice. (I think he was ill in that video.) There have been several superstars who have said that he can sing un-amplified, just you and him in a room and you can't believe the volume with which he sings. Look at him, he is very muscular. And he ain't no spring chicken. He seems to have a good way about him. (Nice to be around, not a jerk.)

I have seen him in concert twice. My gf wanted to see him and I said, "What, Tom Jones? Heck no." But, I went... and loved it. Same thing with Wayne Newton. Not my cup of tea. Until I saw him. If they headline in Vegas, they are top notch.

Bill,

Tom Jones has always been a power singer, but if you listen to his older concerts he also was a master of using effects to their utmost. I'm still amazed how well he can sing with no effects, no special anything. He still has what it takes.

Another great find, Bill. Not too many people think about it, but a standard telecaster is the choice as a second instrument for most of the traditional jazz players over the years. I'm talking about guys like Freddie Green, Jim Hall and lots of others.

Old Tom sounds great! And he should be proud of his guitar playing son.

Bill, thanks for the heads up and NPR link to that impressive Tom Jones & son intimate 'less is more' performance.
I not only enjoy attending these kind of intimate venues, but performing this type of venues too, as it keeps you up close and more personally involved with your audience as well.

The Tom Jones' classics I cover in my repertoire include: Help Your Self, It's Not Unusual, and What's New PussyCat (a 3/4 waltz) dancers
Interestingly enough, my Grandma was a big Tom Jones' fan back in the day. cool
