When you go to the Ketron website, you will have to click on the English flag first before you proceed.

Here you go anyway ...

Information
The Installation of the new Update 4.0 will erase the Programs, the Registrations and the User files currently programmed within the keyboard. It will also erase and format the Flash Pattern location so all Flash styles will have to be reloaded once the system software has been installed. It modifies the names and the locations of many sections of the SD1 compared to the previous software. If such files are important to you, we recommend that you copy all of them into the SD1’s Hard Disk before starting the Installation. We suggest that you take a look at the attached Technical Tables in order to see the right numerical order and correspondence of the Program Changes with their respective Sounds (GM Voices Bank A, B, & C), Drum Sets, Live Drums and Styles.

INSTALLING OS4.0B FOR THE SD1 WITH NEW 4.0 SOUNDS
If you have already installed OS4.0a, you will only need to install the new OS4.0b (SD1STAN.EXE), which makes minor corrections to some operating functions. However, if this is your first time installing OS4.0, please proceed to download, unzip and copy all the other relevant files mentioned within the ‘Download installation files’ section to floppy disks and proceed to install as mentioned under the ‘Here is the correct procedure to properly install the update 4.0 for SD1’ section.

INSTALLING OS4.0B FOR THE SD1 WITHOUT THE NEW SOUNDS
Many customers have requested for the ability to be able to install the new OS4.0 while maintaining the older SD1 sounds that have been well renowned as of date (associated with previous OS releases). The OS4.0b for the SD1 can now be installed without installation of the new associated 4.0 voices. I.e. by installing this software, the sounds of the SD1 will remain identical to what you had with previous versions (3.0c or later), however you will have all the new functions associated with OS4.0b.

Please proceed as follows:

(A) If you have not installed any previous versions of 4.0 or later (i.e. you currently have OS3.0c or earlier on your keyboard)

1. Download the file SD1ORG.EXE and unzip all it’s contents onto an empty FD.
2. With the SD1 turned off, insert this disk into the FD of the unit and while holding down Midi (F6) button, turn on the keyboard.
3. The new files will be loaded and upon completion, the SD1 will automatically reboot.
4. Create on the SD1 a new Folder “NoSound” as follows:
a. Press Disk.
b. Press Folder (F8).
c. Press New (F1).
d. Write the name “NOSOUND” using the keys.
e. Press EXECUTE (F10).
5. Download the files PBANKNS1.EXE , PBANKNS2.EXE , PBANKNS3.EXE onto 3 blank FDs and copy these 94 files into the newly created HD folder ‘NOSOUND’ of the SD1.
6. Go to the new HD folder, select and LOAD the file ‘Sd1style.sty’. When completed, SELECT and LOAD the file ‘Sd1pbank.h80’ which will load all other associated files. This will reload the new Flash style format associated with this OS.
7. The SD1 will reset itself after all relevant files have been loaded into memory.

(B) If you have installed previous versions of 4.0 or later (i.e. you currently have OS4.0a on your keyboard)

1. With the SD1 turned on, make sure the Master Folder LED is turned off.
2. Press DISK and make sure you are within a HD folder (if not, press –page+ to access the HD).
3. Using the styles numeric buttons, enter 9-0 to access Folder 90 – Reload.
4. Select the file ‘Flash086.pcm’ and press LOAD. All associated sound files should be loaded as well and the SD1 will reset when done. Repeat steps 1-3 and this time, select the file ‘Firm0000.snd’ and LOAD. Upon completion, the previous sound files will now be re-installed.
5. Download the file SD1ORG.EXE and unzip all it’s contents onto an empty FD.
6. With the SD1 turned off, insert this disk into the FD of the unit and while holding down the Midi (F6) button, turn on the keyboard.
7. The new files will be loaded and upon completion, the SD1 will automatically reboot.
8. Create on the SD1 a new Folder “NoSound” as follows:
a. Press Disk.
b. Press Folder (F8).
c. Press New (F1).
d. Write the name “NOSOUND” using the keyboard keys.
e. Press EXECUTE (F10) to complete.
9. Download the files PBANKNS1.EXE , PBANKNS2.EXE , PBANKNS3.EXE onto 3 blank FDs.
10. Copy these 94 files into the newly created HD folder ‘NOSOUND’ of the SD1.
11. Go to the new HD folder, SELECT and LOAD the file ‘Sd1style.sty’. When completed, SELECT and LOAD the file ‘Sd1pbank.h80’ which will load all other associated files. This will reload the new Flash style format associated with this OS.
12. The SD1 will reset itself after all relevant files have been loaded into memory.

SD1 UPDATE 4.0b INSTALLATION
Here is the correct procedure to properly install the Update 4.0 for SD1.
Download from web site into your computer all the 12 Files .exe.
Copy the Update Software to the Floppy by clicking on the file SD1Stan.exe and than on the function Unzip. The 36 Program files will be automatically transferred onto Floppy disk.
Insert the Floppy with the Program into the SD1’s driver while it is turned off.
Switch On the keyboard holding down the function button Midi (F6) for a second. The new Program will be automatically installed in SD1. When installation begins, you may release the F6 button. At the end, the message "Flash not formatted" will appear. Proceed and press “Format”.
Turn off the Master Folder to prevent undesired copying or overwrite into the Folder Reload – 90 by turning of the Master Folder LED.
Create on the SD1’s Hard Disk a new Folder, giving it the name “STANDARD”. To create the folder, proceed as follows:

- Press Disk
- Press Folder – F8
- Press New -F1
- Write the name “Standard”
- Press Execute- F10.

Before proceeding, be sure that Folder you are using is the Standard one just created (and not a User 01 or others).

Download one by one from the Computer to Floppy disk all files Pcm.exe and PBank.exe, clicking first on the .exe icon and then on the Unzip function.

Then copy the content of every Floppy disk into the folder Standard previously created on the SD1’s Hard Disk.

NOTE: This operation can be made using just 1 Floppy disk (by copying from computer to floppy, floppy to HD, erase floppy and copy the next file from computer to floppy…) or using as many Floppies as the files to be loaded (approximately 14). For faster operations of such nature, it is advisable to utilize the KetronFT program found on our website. This will require the purchase of the special cable 9AC123 which will link your computer to the computer host connection of the SD1. Once this software is installed, you will be able to copy directly and rapidly from your computer to the HD of the SD1 all relevant files (111).

Select in the Standard Folder the file 0Flash.rld and then press Load (F2) to confirm. After loading is terminated, the SD1 reset itself automatically.

Select once more in the Standard Folder the file 0Standard.rld and press Load (F2) to confirm. This operation (which requires some time) installs into the SD1 the new Style’s Parameters, the new Sound Program and other internal operating files set by KETRON. After this operation, you may choose to reload your files that were saved prior to the beginning of this update.
After loading has been completed the SD1 resets itself.

The Update 4.0 is entirely installed and the “new” SD1 is ready to be played!

Flash Style Replacement

It is possible to strongly enhance and personalize the keyboard by replacing individual internal Flash Styles with some of the Patterns optimised and offered from KETRON together with the SD1 Restyling or with other completely new Styles.

The Replacement operation can be easily achieved by following these instructions:

- Download from the styles web page into your computer the Patterns you prefer.

- Copy the Patterns on a Floppy disk and insert the Floppy into the SD1’s driver.

- Copy the Patterns from Floppy into the Hard Disk. They can be copied into the Master Folder or into any other folder you prefer.

- Press Utility, go to Page 3 and press Password – F6. Press again F6 to Unlock the Password Folder protection and confirm with F 10.

- Now press Disk to see the Pattern directory.

- Select with Value the first Pattern and press Load (F2).

- The Display will ask for the Style to be replaced. Scroll with the -Value + buttons the Flash Style locations until you find the one you want to replace with the new Pattern.

- Press Execute to confirm.

The size of Flash memory available for Style Replacement is clearly displayed on the screen anytime a Replace operation is made. Normally it should be possible to replace the 109 Flash Styles in the SD1.

If more space is required (“Pat Flash Full” will be displayed), then it may be necessary to replace one of the internal Styles with an empty or a very small Pattern/Style.

AJ,

It had been suggested by some SD1 users that doing a complete 4.0b load rather than upgrading 3.0 > 4.0a > 4.0b, eliminates most, if not all of the latency/polyphony problems. First of all, do you concur?

Secondly, which of your above mentioned procedures should be used... already having 4.0b from upgrades... and wanting to do a complete reload of 4.0 with the new sounds?

Thanks,
Glenn

GlennT.

Please see response below:

GlennT AJ,

>>>AJ: Not really. A missing file while downloading/installing can cause the OS to operate abnormally, but the upgrade (with all files) should work regardless of previous OS.

Secondly, which of your above mentioned procedures should be used... already having 4.0b from upgrades... and wanting to do a complete reload of 4.0 with the new sounds?
>>>AJ: If you already have 4.0a (that comes with the new sounds) and you just want to do an OS upgrade, 4.0b should be ok. However, if you don't want the 4.0 sounds then 4.0b (No Sounds) is what you're looking for.

Thanks,

AJ

Attention AJ, I interpret Glenn's question (and I have the same) as follows:

If somebody currently has 4.0b with new sounds (upgraded step by step in the past) but suspects, that something MIGHT be wrong with the keyboard: what is the correct procedure to re-load completely the SD1 to status 4.0b with new sounds? I guess, it is not just running SD1STAN.EXE again, isn't it?

I re-loaded SD1ORG.EXE with all new sounds, then SD1STAN.EXE and saw that most of my changes were kept, as e.g. the RAM sound list to be laoded in the boot process. This troubled me a bit, despite the KB works. I would prefer once to re-load to 4.0b from scratch (is this the right word :-) ?).

Yes, that's what I'm looking for.
