I can't seem to find the right style on the T4 for Cold Duck Time. The best I can come up with is Rock Cha Cha but it just doesn't have the right groove.

Al,

Just a quick guess, but you could try FunkPopRock at about 130 bpm on Pg 4 of Pop&Rock category?

For the Al Jarreau version maybe JazzFunk (R&B Page2) with Pad, PHR1 and PHR2 turned off?

Hi Al, wow, just got back from my gig and found your thread request. You bringing up 'Cold Duck Time' brings me back to my late 80's college days playing that tune & "Compared To What" in my school's jazz combo. Interestingly enough, after going solo and utilizing an arranger, I've sort of moved away from jazz and to more mainstream classic pop music, so it's great having you help me rediscover this genre, but from an arranger POV this time around. Ok, apologies for the digression.

I think Ian's "FunkPopRock" suggestion good, but one I prefer for "Cold Duck Time" is "Jazz Funk" (R&B style secL page 2) Start at 120 bpm and mute all auto accomp parts except bass & drums, and add other auto accomp parts as you see fit. I like the funky bass line & drums and think it fits in with the groove of this song. Add the auto accomp guitar & horn fills to fill out the rhythm section as you see fit. Another funky style to try out is: GospelFunk. Have fun. cool
