Hello All,
A couple of years ago, I finished my show and the guy who followed me flung open his keyboard stand, plopped his keyboard case on it, Removed the lid (come` a DJ coffin), plugged into power and to his amp and goes. I didn’t have an opportunity to speak with the guy nor do I know who he is. Since then I’ve searched for such a case without any luck. Anyone know of such a case? It very well could have been a DJ coffin as he had ample room for a small mixer and cables (that were already connected and ready), but it didn't have the height or depth of a coffin.
Ciao,
Jerry

Its called a "tray case" in which the top pieces latches to the bottom and the bottom stays put. I had one custom made for my Yamaha EMX 512 mixer and I now see there being mass produced and available on Ebay. I contacted one of the case companies who advertises on Ebay about making one for my keyboard and they said no problem, only the bottom piece would have a 1.5" lip so you have to know if that will interfere with any plugs or whatever connected to the keyboard.
Let us know how you make out

Hi Jerry,

Any custom case maker should be able to make a case to your spec. Our store uses a company over here, gothardflightcases.co.uk and they have made several cases like you describe over the years for us.

I would suggest you contact a case maker, and see if they will do one for you. With our supplier, we need to give him a rough drawing of what we want, he gets the measurements for all the bits of kit, comes back to us with a price for soing it, and then makes it once we give him the order.

John

If I understand what you are driving at, wouldn't the case in this link work by just using it upside down? Only weighs 10-12 pounds on top of it. This one fits a Tyros but I know they make others.

This is a mixer case but just imagine it with different dimensions to fit a keyboard

Deinitly NOT what I was expecting at all..I'm talking about a fold down front flap. The Kb never leaves the case & remains on the stand.

Mine is SKB. The top comes off, but the front doesn't fold down.
I used it to leave the Midjay, laptop, mixer, etc in. I plan to try the same thing with the Roland module.

I am trying to figure out what the big advantage of this type of case would be considering that if the case I showed doesn't do the trick you would be adding 20-30+ lbs to the weight of your keyboard with a hard shell type case confused

Also, it comes to mind that if your using a Bk7m and other accessories piled into a case of this type the advantage of having a small lightweight module now turns into a case with stuff in that weighs as much or more than an arranger keyboard and case.

Here are more cases than you would care to look at. If necessary click on more.

Hi Scott. Any idea why this company won't post to Australia? I would love one of them - even a used one.

Thanks for all the responses. What Donny described is what I’m interested in. In my instance, I want to mount a Novation controller, a Master midi bass controller and a Midjay Plus (and maybe an SD2 later) in a single case.
Ciao,
Jerry

Hi Jim

Good question. Maybe the Tuffbox site will ship to you. Here is the link. What keyboard do you have? Really, for a hard shell case (made from luan plywood) the price is good and so is the weight. I will probably get one of these eventually.

Exactly Jerry....I want to walk into the gig, put the lightweight case on the stand..take off the top, drop down the front, plug it in and start playing, & when I'm done do the reverse order and go home! wink "Custom made" most likely will be the ONLY way to get this to Fruition! keys
