I have already asked this in another topic but it went unnoticed, so I am asking again:

I would like to install an hard disk into my XD3; the XD3 manual says that it should be "ATA IDE 2.5, 6 Gbyte max". I assume it's a laptop kind of hard disk, since other keyboards, like the Yamaha 9000, use these kind of HD, which offer a better protection for the heads.
I don't care much about voiding the warranty; I know that I could order the HD from Ketron, but it's more expensive, since it comes loaded with styles (which I really don't need). Besides, I hate the idea of taking the XD3 to a repair center, leaving it there for maybe a week and then taking it back and finding maybe a scratch or two on the case...
So what I am asking is: can I purchase a laptop HD which fits the above specifications and install it myself (like I have always done with all my PCs) or do I need a special kit that only Ketron can provide? (like IDE flat cables and stuff like that?)
Thanks

Dreamer,

The actual HD itself can be ordered from eg a computer store with the discriptions you've listed above. However the unit you will need to 'hold' the HD in place plus the cables might not be that easy to get outside of Ketron.

Thanks,

AJ

Hey, wow, Andrea!
I didn't know you got some more Solton/Ketron gear. That is cool! How do you like your XD3? Do you have it hooked up to your SD1? Did you get a good deal on it over there in Italy?

AJ, thanks for your reply.

Tom, as you know already I like my XD3 a lot; the sound is cleaner compared with the SD1 (it looks like Ketron has improved the DSP), but of course the SD1 has more waveforms. The acoustic piano, for example, sounds more natural and rich, because the samples are longer with a natural decay.
Overall, the XD3 is a good unit, especially considering that I got it for 948 dollars (shipment and 20% tax included) from Synthplanet.
I think that this unit will have a great development in the future, in terms of sounds and other features. We'll see...
Yesterday I played the XD3 with my VA7, but today I tried the new 9000 pro instead; both work great, but of course playing from a 76 notes keyboard is much better.
