Does Yamaha demand to retailers that they must advertise at 'set' prices?

The PSR S910 is advertised @ $1,749.99... EVERYWHERE!

Larry,
Yamaha and pretty much every other company have two prices. Retail and MAP. This has been discussed here for years. Retail is a listed price at full mark up which is determined by the manufacturer. MAP is minimum advertised price which is exactly what it's letters mean. It is the lowest price which can be quoted on internet sites and in printed advertisements used by dealers. Any dealer that doesn't adhere to this policy is subject to loosing his or hers ability to carry and sell products from this manufacturer. The prices a dealer chooses to sell for is still the dealers choice but this has to be negotiated between the dealer and the customer. For instance if you were to walk into a store a negotiate a lower price this is ok.
