Nice demo. $3500 is still too much for me though. I will wait until the technology trickles down into a more affordable model. Though until it does I will have buy something else though I do like what I hear a lot.

$3500 is pretty much a baseline price for most TOTL arrangers, and some are more...

The Kronos seems a bargain, by comparison.

I agree.., the cost of the 61 key version is less than a TOTL arranger. Hell the Kronos (61) cost LESS than the PA-800 Elite. The Kronos (61) is currently at a pre-order price of $2,999! That's a hell of a bargain for what all this synth/workstation does.

I think the new Kronos line will really show how unjust the cost difference is between TOTL arrangers and TOTL workstations. Just look at these prices (from Sweetwater)

Yamaha Tyros 4: $4,999
Korg PA2X Pro: $3,699

Even look at the prices of Korgs mid PA series models!

PA-800 Elite: $3,199.., and the standard PA-800 comes in at just under three grand as well.

The synth engines in the Kronos are amazing in that demo. Did you hear the frequency response and the warmth of those patches. Those pianos are to die for; very expressive. You have to hand it to Korg; they must be driving the other manufacturers NUTS!

try and do a solo gig with the Kronos and then you will undestand the price difference.

I'm really debating about whether to get the KRONOS. I want to hear it live before I would plunk down any cash although if the demos are any indication of the sound quality then it should be one great keyboard. I wanted to mention also that the SSD hard drive is 30GB total but only the "factory" data can actually be streamed off the hard drive which would be 12 GB total. The other 18 GB can be used for everything else.

Kudos to Korg for igniting so much excitement in the workstation arena once again. They have priced the KRONOS comparable to other workstations currently on the market plus I believe the SSD hard drive is included along with the purchase price. What will be interesting to find out is the price of the add-on boards i.e. the EXs expansions. There are a total of nine so far with the possibility of even more?? We'll see. But if Korg prices the expansions relatively high... say $399.00 each... then that is going to start to add up really fast. $400 x 9 = $3,600 which is roughly the same price as the KRONOS 88 keyboard! eek Hopefully Korg won't "gouge" their customers once they "hook 'em" into purchasing the KRONOS itself. wink FWIW, I would in NO way purchase a KRONOS without first knowing the prices of the expansion boards. It's one thing to get a good deal on a bleeding edge keyboard but it's quite another to be "taken to the cleaners" on the expansion boards Korg will offer. Hopefully that won't be the case but we'll have to wait and see.

All the best,
Mike

I totally agree. It's just that I am not in that price range for any keyboard. hmmmm ... but I really would love to own one of these. Maybe I should make a cardboard sign and stand at the nearest freeway entrance "Will Work For A Korg Kronos" wink
