I tried something new today. I've been playing a Tyros 1 on the road for several years now and I'm very happy with it. I bought an S900 several months ago to use in the studio and for church. I am very happy with that also. Today, I decided to take the S900 out on the road. The reason being was the fact that I could put wav files on the flash drive and not have to use a laptop. I found the live sound to be greatly inferior than the Tyros. So much so that as soon as I got home I switched keyboards. The problem was mostly in the mic end. It sounded like cardboard. O well, back to my original setup which was awesome.

Hi Joe. I suppose there's something to be said about the old adage: "you get what you pay for". Yamaha S900 arrangers are certainly terrific 'bang for the buck' keyboards, but there's gotta be something that accounts for the big price difference between it and a Tyros, so it seems you just found one of them. That said, I wonder if you might be able to improve the sound with some S900 EQ tweaking. - Scott

One of the things I liked best about the S900 was the vocal processing. Not the vocal harmony mind you.
It take a little tweaking, but I thought it was excellent.

Joe,

Are you still using that antique SM-58 that you found in the dumpster behind Giovanni's?

Hi Gary,

As a matter of fact I am and you should hear it on the other rig. Sounds like I'm in Carnagie(sp) Hall. There might be something wrong with the vocal processer in the S900. I trust DonM's oppinion as I've heard him in person and I know the kind of sound he likes. No harm done. I like it better in the studio since I don't have to hook it up to anything to play it.

Later,

Joe

C'mon up to the ranch one day and I'll show you how to tune the vocal processor on the S-900. I'll make up a fresh batch of Kickapoo Joy Juice.
