I have a suspicion that it was posted here or in The Bar before, if it is the case, please forgive me, I searched for it and didn't find it.

Documentary following a generation of post-punk musicians who took the synthesiser from the experimental fringes to the centre of the pop stage.

In the late 1970s, small pockets of electronic artists including the Human League, Daniel Miller and Cabaret Volatire were inspired by Kraftwerk and JG Ballard and dreamt of the sound of the future against the backdrop of bleak, high-rise Britain.

The crossover moment came in 1979 when Gary Numan's appearance on Top of the Pops with Tubeway Army's Are Friends Electric heralded the arrival of synthpop. Four lads from Basildon known as Depeche Mode would come to own the new sound whilst post-punk bands like Ultravox, Soft Cell, OMD and Yazoo took the synth out of the pages of the NME and onto the front page of Smash Hits.

By 1983, acts like Pet Shop Boys and New Order were showing that the future of electronic music would lie in dance music.

Contributors include Philip Oakey, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Bernard Sumner, Gary Numan and Neil Tennant.

For me the thing is that I was listening to this music when growing up, older folks here may had or lusted over the gear they are using.

Anyway, here are the links for the entire thing:
*(note that according to some Youtube comments, North America and some other territories cannot view part 9 due to some silly copyright reasons, the truth may be different).

Trident,

I'm a longtime fan of the Pet Shop Boys & 80's British Pop, so will enjoy taking this trip down memory lane. Many many thanks for posting this. All good !

It is great seeing it again...I'm a big fan of Depeche Mode

Thank you,

Ian

I went through a long phase where I was doing a lot of electronic music using Roland/Linn drum machines, Polymoog, Roland Jupiter 8 and SH-2000...

Love Kraftwerk and Mannheim Steamroller, too.

Were you into such music, Bachus?

Ian

You are absolutely right, Ian, I was pretty sure I first saw it here, but searched for "britannia" here and in the Bar and couldn't find it. Only now it crossed my mind to search for "documentary and it popped up, it was exactly 11 months ago.
Thanks again for posting.
