It's a nice sampled sound, but you can tell by listening to it that the sound engine is dead basic, probably limited to ADSR and very little else beyond that.

You can tell easily just by listening to how only the volume of the sounds changes. There is no tonal difference between a soft note and a loud not, no expression and not even the attack changes.

So, great sample, but the sound engine is bloody dead basic and it kills the samples in the process.

Here's what a good sound engine sounds like when dealing with samples. http://www.irishacts.com/misc/violin.mp3

James

Hi James

I understand what you mean. But I still love the sound and think it's sounds better than your violin IMHO.

Hi Niels.

Yeah that's cool. I'm all for people knowing what they want and so I have no problem if you still prefer it over what I posted. As I said above, I think it's a great sample. For me though the sound engine lets it down because it could be a so much more emotional sounding instrument if it had the means to shape sounds that all the other top end arrangers have these days.

Ketron are way behind the game when you compare function and ability. They have good style programmers and sound engineers for sampling though.

James

Hi Niels,

Nice performance, the Violin sounds great.

Which Audya do you have?
I have the Audya 4.
Also, which violin? Have you tried the Fiddle steel in the ETHNIC BANK?

Thanks for sharing,
Don P

Great performance Neils, i really like the warm sound of that Violin...

But the Violin in James MP3 is of a whole different level... and i bet when tweaked with the right effects it can sound just as warm as your Violin.

@James, love to know how you programmed that Violin.

@Neils, i think what James means it shows where Auya looses in the solo sound department, Yamaha has its SA voices, Korg has DNC and Software instruments can surpass even that level. But audya has missed the boat on these new technollogies for now...

But then with a good laptop, some VST's and some great sample libraries your Ketron will have fantastic solo voices on top of the best styles available. And there are even soundmodules that load your VST's and samples.

But then, when playing live, i wonder who notices if your violin has the same nuances as a real violin..
