...those synths that had an automatic recorder that would keep the last few minutes of your playing in memory. I thought that was cool, but never had one. What were they ?

What else is gone, but not forgotten? Let us know.

I believe Ensoniq had some synth/workstations that did that very thing...the recorder was always live.

Cass so many great features from the past on KB's are now sadly long gone..... eg:
The Roland "Chord Sequencer" comes to mind and a few others like The Ketron "Bass lock", ...etc..

... the "Dynamic Accompaniment" on the earlier KN's ... like the kn1000 ... the accomp reacted and changed based on the # and speed of notes you played ...

Dynamic Accomp is/was a great feature. KN3000 have it too.
Played the accomp different depending of how hard you press the keys or left
hand chord, and the variation was different each time.
Don't remember how many variations totally for each style, but you can also
choose between heavy, normal, light and extra light preassure to trigger the
variations.
I did really like that option, it gave the playing more dynamic and live feel
and is much more smooth than the ordinary fillins.
