I want to a FREE concert last weekend for Father's Day and saw:
Average White Band
War
Tower of Power ( my fav )
They were all soooooo good, but to be honest - War stole the show. They were tight and entertaining, played originals and some snippets of covers to introduce the band - a very clever way to suck the crowd into the intros...I liked it.
TOP is always top notch, and I'm going back to see them in NYC at the end of July at a winery - fun, fun, fun!

I started playing barisax in a 10 piece horn band, and they now all call me "doc" ( the funky doctor as in TOP ) I'm having a ball - the trumet player is amazing, the tenor and alto guys solo their asses off, and I get to do all the funky, spatty, low note hits that tie it all together. Most fun I've had in years!

Good for you UD ... I sometimes work with a horn man who plays them all, but he has told me that the most fun he has is playing bari in TOP-type bands ... loves the synchopated parts, etc. ...

My bari is the only thing I'm gettin' my lips close to these days .... I have to be careful!

War was surprising! Really great visual and sound ... they played the most "hits", so the crowd really responded to them the most.
