As usual with yamaha styles... big intro-endings... and boring short and repeating main part....

Yeah...most styles are pretty boring in the middle bits, no matter what brand.

I do a lot of style editing, and have a bunch of donor styles that have interesting bits like great string pads, cool guitar strums or neat phrases.

I also don't use canned intros/endings...nine times out of ten they are overplayed and don't fit the song.

I use those canned intros all the time, except on my originals.

Can't wait until those styles are translated into PSR-S900 language. I really love Yamaha's aftermarket styles. They're worth the $7. Midispot styles are hit or miss.

I don't think you are giving these a fair shake, Dave... All they are playing is the big Intro, only two bars of ONE Variation with no chord changes, no Fill, and the big Ending. There's three more Variations and six fills (and a break fill) you haven't heard (plus three more Ins and Ends). You can make ANY style sound boring if that's ALL you record...

No, my main problem with these is that too many of them are Song Styles. FAR too recognizable to use for much else other than the one song. Less specific styles end up being used FAR more often, IMO.

The main problem with canned intros is that you can only use them once or twice in a night or set.

I edit the intros and use them as extra variations and/or stop fills...I always play my own intros.

Song specific intros/endings are even more limiting.

It's not so bad now that we have much more storage for styles than a few years ago.
