Will the ketron sd2 make a psr s900 sound better?
What is it exactly?

If your question is directly related to simply getting the external module to produce all the sounds instead of your S900, then yes if the module has better sounds your styles will also sound better.

It's likely that you will have to adjust the volumes of the styles however as they won't match as well as they already do on the S900 as the styles where set for the sounds used at that time.

Regards.
James.

Your primary problem, with an S900, is that the MIDI to transmit style parts (I presume you wanted to improve the style parts as well as just the RH voices seeing as how that is probably 80%+ of what anyone is hearing) is pretty primitive.

If I remember right (correct me if I'm not), the style section is an 'all or nothing' affair. You can't select just a few parts to transmit, and some to remain Internal.

Before you make this purchase, you need to investigate the S900's manual VERY carefully...

The SD-2 would give you some different sounds for use on your PSR..
HOWEVER. the PSR does not have a very good MIDI implemtation for selectig the sounds from the buttons on the keyboard etc.

And, no it won't really make it sound better..that's up to the player.

Hi Shim,
psr's aren't a good controller.
You won't be able to access the sd2's higher banks, only the gm bank fo playing melody parts. The psr: sd2 bank changes don't match.
Psr uses controller 32 & 0 for bank changes, sd2 only uses controller 0.
Remember SD2 doesn't have buttons to choose sounds, it's primarily for pc use or for use with a keyboard controller.

I managed to midi sd2 to my pa800, it worked, but the pa800 has superior controller functions to psr.

As using it to play style parts. On my psr1500 all the style tracks had to be played by either the psr or sd2.
Unless you edit user styles specifically to suit sd2 bank/program changes, drum tracks
(sd2 is gm, psr is xg, mapping differs slightly) you'll have problems.

I midied my sd2 to my psr1500, not really succesful. Also used it with One Man Band software, had a bit more successwith this setup, but styles psr styles still needed to be altered.

best wishes
Rikki

I use the SD2 with an Axiom 61 controller,as a second keyboard, which easily accesses all banks. The solo sounds are great.

I've always felt that, if an arranger's RH voices aren't good enough for you, why is the style section good enough?

If I were adding anything to my arranger, I would want it's strongest sounds to be available for the style section as well as just solo voices...
