That question is like asking which is the best Piano, Steinway, Bösendorfer, Yamaha, Kawai etc
The simple answer is that there isn’t one; it all comes down to what you personally prefer.

Regards

Bill

Make your own mind up... Here they all are (or most of them - somebody up the T3, would they?).

All playing exactly the same piece.

My personal choice is the G70 (it's the same as the FamtomX Ultimate Grand), but you might also like the brighter (I say thinner!) Yamaha's, too.

IS there something like a "Best" piano sound..

I think there are just most suitable for certain situation sounds....

Next to that i personally think certain piano VST's outperform the current keyboard sounds by miles... but that does not mean there are topmodel keyboards with really bad piano sounds

I have always preferred the Kurzweil Grand Piano sound, but then again...
...to my ears...
... these are good too:
Technics console Grand Piano
Roland Fantom X, G70
Yamaha Motif, S90
I never cared for the older Korg grands but the newer ones are supposed to be equally good.

With the possible exception of Casio, I like them all. I just like some more than others, but overall they're all good to excellent, and every one of them can be tuned to your specific needs, at least using the TOTL keyboards.

Good Luck,

Gary

Which modern day Keyboard doesn't have a great sound? The wife takes a Casio Previa over the Roland on some gigs and it sounds great to me and those listening to her. She prefers the Roland but is not embarrassed to play the Casio. But then again she could make a little wooden kiddy keyboard sound good

My current way of finding out what I might like or dislike is to play the P.Creek FantomX Ultimate Grand file, then play whatever else I want to listen to next...

So far, few of even the big GIGA sized VSTi's impress me as much. Listen to the detail on the inner voices during the quiet passages (anyone can bang away and sound OK), listen to how you can actually make out each note the file plays on denser chord voicings, listen to how warm and intimate it sounds... Now listen to your NEXT choice.

Are they still there? If so, you've picked a good one. If not...

Oh, and BTW... Every few weeks (sooner if you can), go and play a nice big Steinway, Yamaha, Kawai, whatever... remind yourself what a REAL good piano actually sounds like. You'd be amazed at how warm and intimate it sounds when you aren't hammering away at it. Unlike so many sampled sets.
