I know it has excellent sounds & styles being I had a few Ketron KBs already.....but I'm a Live player & navigational nut.....reading about all these SD5 features has my attention eg: Multi Tabs, VH...etc etc....

Can you SD5 players chime in and give some real time reviews & opinions pro or con?

Thanks

It's great. Once you get comfortable with the OS, it's really easy to access features, registrations and sounds on the fly.
Factory styles can be edited or replaced and stored. Styles for Midjay and SD1, plus older models all work.
The multi-tabs can be assigned to most anything you want. I have made assignments such as vocal harmony on/off (a light comes on when it's on!),
style variations, cymbal crash, text up and down, registration up and down. . . etc.
I can help you with it if you get one.

But Donny remember when you "went back" to the SD1+, you had it about 6 weeks and then sold it off again, because you found the operating system too awkward or something to that effect.

From what I have seen the SD5 op sys looks very similar to the SD1+, which I had for a while and sold off for the same reasons.

Too awkward in the op sys, and no real way to match either the songbook in Korgs, or the registrations in Yamahas.

What makes the SD5 that much different? Plus it has less keys, although you seem used to 61 now!!

And still NO tilt screen!!

Why not just add the new TC Helicon harmoniser to the s900, be a great combo then!!

Donny,

The SD5 sounds better then all of the Ketrons that have come out so far. But the OS is the same from SD1 & Xd9.It has no USB so you have to use that PC to keyboard interface. The riffs so great but after to 20th time of hearing them your going to get bored. I had one and sold it because I simply got bored of it.

Good luck

Don, wait for the Audya. It'll be out sooner than you can buy, get bored of and sell an SD5.

Mc thank you this is the stuff I want to hear. I've owned & performed with many Ketron products X1/XD9/SD1+/Midjay so I know the Os very well & yes they sound great & built like a tank. Maybe the Audya will bring to the table a whole new way of doing it for Ketron? We'll see. But to my ears I honestly have to say that sonically Yamaha is the leading the pac although lacking in other things & features which I hope they address soon.

Actually, I have SD5 and Yamaha PSRS900. I find the registration system on SD5 far superior to the Yamaha. I have a virtually unlimited number of registrations at my fingertips and I can quickly find and call them up, either by selecting from screen or entering a 3-digit number. Once you get it organized it is a very efficient way to work.
It's also quick and easy to save style changes or registrations on the fly.
The vocal harmonizer is excellent also and I love the Strat Guitar sound.
I can only imagine how great the Audya will be!

Hi Donny,
I thought your reason for dumping the PA800 was because lack of styles??

Aren't you just jumping from the frying pan into the fire by choosing a Ketron again.
Maybe it's just me, but I never really found much in the way of additional styles for my sd1.

Korg on the other hand I now have a heap of.
Admittedly most are from Pa1x & earlier korgs, but most work quite well with minor tweaking . It's even cropped up we may finally get styles from a 3rd party commercial source , provided there's enough interest from users.
If you really need a change, why not wait for the Audya, even though the 3rd party style problem may still be relavent..

Donny,

Be patient my friend. Wait for the next generation. What's the problem with the 900?

I sure am comfortable with the 800. This has been a dream machine (a keeper FINALLY).

RIKKI - want to sell me your style collection - sincerely

Im sorry everyone ...I had a dream last night about playing a SD5......when I woke up this morning I was high on the idea of getting one but as I listened to demos, talked with SZer's & looked in the mirror I realized the dream might turn into a nightmare for me Then I went out to a big gig today and snapped back into reality Playing my S900 & inside I know I have to WAIT for the releases of the next wave of arrangers to forfill my needs on stage.....thanx for all your help.

Hi Zuki,
they're only a collection of styles I downloaded from Korg & Createasong forums.
All I've done to date is discard the really bad ones, and put them into banks of, jazz, ballads, bigband etc. & save them to USB stick instead of having them clog up the keyboard.
Now if I need to look for a style for a song , I can just load in a suitable bank into the User 1, 2 or 3 section of the keyboard. Audition them with the song. If I find a suitable one, I can tweak it , & save it to a Favourites slot permanently.

Currently the only ones I've tweaked are some of my own conversions & some simple piano styles I put together.

I can't sell them, as they're not mine to sell. I'm more than happy to give you a copy of the collection, though.

Beautiful solo, but it was riddled with "keyboard cliches" ... didn't do the guitar sound justice !

There will ALWAYS be something better just around the corner... that's true for cars, HDTVs, and keyboards.

MC,

What does this mean....the riffs? Do you mean the basic dance styles...or...the machine plays it's own riffs OVER the basic styles? What "bored" you about the SD5?

I've been thinking about buying one also, but there's something that doesn't "click" about the SD5 and I can't figure out what it is. I know that the styles are a little too aggressive where they're not supposed to be and that, I think, can get into your face after a few hours of playing.

Anyone....overall I think the SD5 is a wonderful instrument, but what else do you find objectionable about it? I need to make a decision about buying another arranger keyboard.

Lucky

How do you do a "quote" so that it shows up "cleanly" as Uncle Dave and GlennT did above (lines above and below the quote)?
