This may only be of interest to Capt. Russ and the few jazz organ fans on the board.

--------------------------------
Bluesman JIMMY McGRIFF has died at a nursing home in New Jersey. He was 72.
The organist, a former Philadelphia, Pennsylvania police officer, was a student of blues greats Jimmy Smith and Richard Holmes.
He hit it big when his arrangement of Ray Charles' I've Got A Woman became a hit in the early 1960s. He also enjoyed chart success with the follow-up, All About My Girl.
McGriff became a respected touring session man and used the cash from his successes to found a club in Newark, New Jersey.
He lived out his life battling multiple sclerosis and reportedly died from heart failure on Saturday (24May08).

Chas, McGriff was one of my favorites. He was one of the few who actually played my recently deceased friend, Winston Walls under the table.

He made my life better with his music. So sad that he was not nearly as well known as players with a fraction of his talent.

Another sad loss.

What a drag it is getting old.... (to quote Mick Jagger, thereby denying it )

I really love that song Diki. "Mother's Little Helper" is one of those Rolling Stones songs that never seems to get air play though I think it is one of their best. It was back when Brian Jones was still playing lead guitar with them in the 60s.
