Another of my email list members writes:
I don't know if you ever saw him in person but he has one great personality. He has been at the Bill Horn Organ/Keyboard the last several years and will be there again this year (June 15-19). He has been playing on the Technote digital piano and organ. He puts on one great show and it's a pleasure to listen to his playing whether on the piano or organ.

Bebop, thanx for posting this. I used to work with Tommy for a number of years at Tune Town Keyboards in the Tampa Bay area. He can't read music and plays everything in the key of C. Great guy. He did this same tune back then.

He used to play the organs like a piano pretty much both hands on one keyboard and did bass pedals. Then he had to do a cruise for Technics. He had never played Technics before and they were going to have him play organs with fewer pedals and keys. I was working with another company at the time. He came to see how he could manage to play under those conditions. I was the one that talked him into using the built in backgrounds for the 1st time just holding the chord down in the left hand. He decided to do it that way and I see he still does that on his Tyros 2 in the other videos.

Scott

Derek,
It must be all right as this guy is famous all over the world for his playing and techniqe.
I don't recall ever hearing you play boogie woogie like this or anything else now that I think about it.
I just guess you must be a local genius and not famous all over the world.

I think he was merely referring to the fact that it wasn't a continuous boogie, but with interludes and tempo changes. Part of the wonder of boogie comes from the sheer stamina and technique to keep up a pounding beat without stopping.

I guess only playing in 'C' and not reading makes him a natural candidate for the arranger, though! (Where's that damn smilie for 'tongue in cheek' again? )

And how about a shout out for Pinetop Smith and Meade Lux Lewis, who never had arrangers, and played in other keys (and weren't white), but at least were some of the founding fathers of the style...

OK GUYS,
I apologize for my caustic and abrasive remarks.
I guess i was having a bad day and it hit me the wrong weay because I been playing that same style of boogie every since Pinetop started it, except it is hard for me to play anymore with the arthritus in both shoulders and a damn 61 key arranger keyboard
Sorry Derek,
Thanks guys for calling me to task.
I will try not to shoot from the hip anymore
Best to all
Bebop
