On a slightly different but not unrelated matter I have just had it confirmed by my roland guy that the new arranger has been put on "indefinite hold".
Which confirms what another SZ member said a couple of weeks ago.
Sad, but according to my guy, the G-70 has been quite underwhelming in sales so Roland are not in any hurry to invest more resources at this time.
It will be a case of releasing it more "in the fullness of time" as Sir Humphrey would say, rather than rushing to market.

Well Roland has been on Hold for quite some time now! While they are on hold, Korg and Yamaha are cleaning up! I know a lot of guys that used to play Roland, but lately I am the only one left with it.

Guess it is time to step up and join the inovators!

Sorry, I don't understand your question? Are you asking my opinion on why Roland are putting the hold on the new arranger, or why the G70 has affected this decision?

Remember, I am only passing on what I was told, not my view on the matter.

hm, roland probably has some (good) strategy for their actions.
their competitor is mainly korg, with pa2x, since g70 (and g1000 before of that) it's only 76 keys version. and also because of the musical approach of styles and sounds.
on the other hand, there are big differences between korg and roland, so maybe an actual roland owner will not rush into changing to korg. g70 is still competitive. with another possible OS upgrade, why change a good piece of hardware?

Good points Adimatis...With the new Fantom, they might feel the G70, especially with the E80, cover all the bases at the moment.

I am not bagging out the g70 (hell, I'm looking to buy one) and the reason of "lack of sales" is coming from their rep, not me. So that is all I am going on.
I still think the G70, based only on what I have read, here and elsewhere can still cut it as a new purchase and is still a viable work-horse.

The G70 has sold poorly here in Eastern Canada...it is sold alongside the arrangers from the competition, so it is not a marketing issue.

So, all you 'experts'.... still believe every word your local 'Roland guy' (whoever the hell that is!) tells you?

The rumor mill usually grinds up cow chips, and then you liberally shake it onto your posts. Guess what it makes them smell of?

Never said i was an expert, never made any claims about anything much really (which does seem at times to be the "raison d'etre" of this site)..I just passed on information given to me.
I assumed, wrongly it would seem now, that passing on info when you get it is what forums are about.
Perhaps not.

Expert = X is an unknown factor, and a spurt is a drip under pressure.

Sorry, miden... wasn't aimed at you in particular, more at the gleeful tone which some others 'announced' a few weeks back (quite definatively) that Roland were ceasing all arranger development and production, with nothing more than the uncorroborated word of some 'Roland guy'...

Makes you wonder what they would tell someone with an ailing relative, doesn't it?

The update is not for free. The price will be around 60 Euro for a mp3 player and 15 new styles.

I can't imagine Roland not directing their new Fantom G Sound engine into an arranger keyboard. Speculation that development is on hold is just a ruse.

The rumours that have been spreading about that Roland are suspending arranger development, actually started early last year, and only related to the G series, NOT to any other Existing or NEW series.

And they remain that... simply rumors. Although these started at the start of last year, Roland have made no official communication about this matter.

And, if you think about it, were it true, Roland would stand to gain sales if announced, as die-hard Roland users rush to buy the last G-series before they are all gone...

Once again, the cow-chips get in the rumor mill....
