So finally when im ready to buy a keyboard again in 2 years i get an alternate offer. I can get a brand new yamaha psr s900 or korg pa 800 for $1799. Here in my country korg is cheaper. I tried the pa500...liked the sounds but not the styles. I know the korg has more indepth features and upper 3 and aftertouch..but im scared to buy a new brand..cos i wont be able to return it once purchased. Ive played the s900 and liked it alot. Are the korg pa500 and pa800 styles identical? Which would u buy and why? I have to choose by saturday. Both keyboards are from different stores. My previous keyboard was tyros 1 and roland before that.

My opinions of these two boards are well-documented. Hated the Korg, like the S900 a lot.
Other's opinions definitely differ!

Just found out that like the tyros 2 the s900 has a foot pedal to add extra dynamics to the s.art voices. To be honest id love to try a new brand especially korg but it is nerve wrecking making the right choice because the keyboard i buy now i will keep for a long time.

My Personal Opinion

Sounds:
If how the sound is articulated is important to you then Yamaha takes the lead, (Just remember there are only a few of them) however if like me you like something that emulates the Real instrument (Which takes more then just articulations) then the Korg pulls quite a bit in front. (Plus it applies to many more voices)

Styles:
If you want everything including the Kitchen sink, then Yamaha is easily the best, however if you wish to choose your own kitchen (Or you come from an organ playing background) then the Korg wins hands down.

Vocalises:
T C Helicon is still the best. (Inbuilt or external)

Overall:
The sound system in the Yamaha rounds off and compresses all the sounds produced by it, thus giving a studio produced CD like sound.
The Korg sound system lets the keyboard sound come alive, thus it feels more like you are listening to a live band. (My preference)

OS:
The Yamaha wins hands down for ease of use, the Korg OS however allows you to do a lot more to customise your performance for your own requirements.

As mentioned at the beginning, the above comments are my Personal opinion only, and as everyone is different, only you can make the final decision as to which you prefer.
Hope this helps

Bill

Thanks. I dont sing and play only instrumental at home. I put down a deposit just now. Picking up a s900 on saturday. Korg is more suited to a band i think. I have a request. Id love to have the multipads of the t1 and t2 . Can anyone email it to me? esalot@webmail.co.za thanks

Bill,

I believe you hit the nail on the head with your comparison.

My new combination is the S900 and PA800. That decision comes after assessing both, exactly like you have.

Can't wait to spend more time on the 800 and will take BOTH live.
