Hi,

Right now, I got QY700, Korg Triton and XV3080 sound module.

I seldom use QY700 AC funtions but started to play around it these few days. But the sound of QY700 is only average (my own standard). So,

1) Do you think PSR2000 is better than QY700 in terms of sound/sequener/AC features.

2) If I don't have any budget for a PSR 2000 for the time being, how can I connect my 3 gears so that :

I play the key on Triton as a controller, QY700 as the AC, XV3080 output the pattern sounds ?

Thanks!

Hello Cowby!

Without being any expert on any of these Yamaha stuff, this is what I think;

1. PSR-2000 and QY700 are quite similar in the quality of the sounds. If there are any differenses in quality, they are small. The big step is to your other equipment.
PSR is clearly better to use as an realtime arranger (AC) and the QY has got a terriffic sequencer clearly above the PSR.

2. The Triton as a controller and the QY as AC and soundsource is no problem. But I donīt think it is possible to use the Roland for the pattern sounds. But itīs OK for solo sounds.

Why can't the Roland be used for the pattern sounds? I believe the QY-700 outputs the autoaccompaniment tracks over MIDI and that the XV-3080 can respond. It might take some tweaking to match the accompaniment patterns to the XV sounds, however.

Thanks guys !

For questions 2), I saw a guy using 2000 as AA but using the sound engine on Triton. I should find out the post and ask him how to config. them.

But if someone has the similiar experience, please share with me.

Thanks!

This is something I was wondering about also. Can you hook up a module like the roland to an arranger to play the AA parts through the module? I know that you can use an arranger as a controller for the parts that you play but what about the style parts?

Clif, maybe Iīm mistaking. But QY700 uses the XG sounds for pattern sound and can only (in a relatively easy way) use an other XG soundsource for the patterns.

Maybe the XV3080 has XG soundtable? In that case it should work!

If you connect QY700 to a non XG soundsource, it will work partly, but with some strange results (because the non XG source will not understand what QY "says"). With some tweaking though, it is possible to gain good results from any good sounding source. The problem is how to save your tweaks, so you donīt have to do it all over again everytime you change a style.

I have used PSR2000 with TRITON.

To play AA parts from PSR or QY on an external source, you need to do lot of housekeeping and organisation.

There are several ways you can do this.
1. Edit the style on PSR and QY and delete XG program change messages from the header. And then insert program change messages for your module. MSB and LSB numbers.. Controller settings etc.

2. This is easier to manage. You do not need to change the style. But you create a performance setup on the external module for each style you will use.
Edit each channel sound the way you want. Then filter out MIDI program change messages on the external module. So even if you PSR or QY is sending out program changes... your module will ignore it.

I used the second method on TRITON. You can have 200 song setups in a SNG file. So I could have setup for upto 200 styles.

Hope this helps.
