Hello all,
Does anyone have comment on either a Fender Passport PD-150 or the Kustom Profile system for use as a solo pa. My hunt is to use as a sort of studio sound and live (if I ever decide to pursue again) for my keyboard and voice. I know the Fender does not offer different fx like the Profile does. Any comments appreciated. I'd go the studio monitor way, but sales clerks have claimed that these products are not designed for live use.
Thanks for advice.
Zuki

The Fender system is OK for live use at moderate levels, but the tiny speaker array will not handle bass response at most dance levels. It's an adequate system for the money - but definatly not studio quality either. The tone is more pronounced in the mid range, and the mixer setup is not the quietest around. It was made as a one-piece unit that sets up fast and sounds ok .... mostly for speech, but solo and duo work is ok, if you are not playing too loud.

The kustom is a similar setup, but has more "beef" in the bottom end. Neither one is the greatest for studio use .... Your search will have compromises no matter where you look, but I'd recommend that you get a STAGE ready setup first, and make it do in the studio. If you do it the other way ... you may ruin the speakers in a "live" situation. Studio work is much more delicate than live. The peaks from the bass alone can blow a studio monitor in a second.

Be careful ...... you're on shaky ground here.
Define your REAL needs first, and then ask for advice based on those specific needs.

You also might consider the Peavey Escort. I bought one about 2 months ago, to use in Nursing Homes and small jobs. It is excellent. It has good sound, is very portable and totally self-contained. I was very surprised at the bass response.
I even used it New Year's Eve for a party of around 200!
