I own a 740 presently.I frequently use the vocalharmonizer with 1 finger chords for playing.Is it worth upgrading to the PSR2000 which looks real good from the Ads...?Please help..THX!

Yeah the 2000 is well worth the upgrade... There are several new features on the 2000 that make it well worth it too. The 2000 now has an internal sequencer and allows more storage for user styles.. You can also edit the voices now, and you're not just stuck with the preset like you are on the 740. The 2000 has a much nicer screen like that of the 9000, stronger speaker system, and a few other things as well. For the price the 2000 would be a good upgrade. The 740 isnt' a bad keyboard, but when compared with the 2000 and what all you get for the money you can't go wrong

wow..thx a lot friend..U really made my job a lot easier.One more thing...what, in your opinion would be better to use with the PSR2000 for digital audio recording...Cakewalk Sonar or Sound forge 5 ? I do not record with MIDI..so thats OK. And yes...Im a dance and trance music afficinado.I play a lot of remixed songs.Are the dance styles like technopolis,eurotrance good and catchy.How would it compare with the dance styles of the 740?

When I was looking for a new synth. I compared all of the features and pricing for the Yamaha line (I happen to like them) and felt the difference between the 740 and 2000 was worth the difference to go to the 2000. (I have had it only a few days but am very pleased with it). I tried the 550 and 740 in a local store and am really impressed with the 2000. The pricing was close for me and I felt the extra features would be worth it.
There is a comparison chart of features on the web. Take a look and decide. I thought the 740 was being discontinued (at least at the guitar center I went to).
There are more sounds, functions, and still has the vocal harmonizer. You can also download the 2000 manual and take a look to see all of the features.

hey sunny. i never used the 740, but i do know that the dance beats on the 2k are quite good. also, you can get some off the net, like the clavinova stuff, that has some great ones. theres also some great lead voices on the 2k.

thx for the info>I do not write dance music but I rely a lot on the styles and the trancy voices in the synth.Also...im new to this voice editing thing..is it just like synthesizing a voice by tweaking its waveforms etc like in the rolands and tritons??

as for your musical question i would go with Sonar ! it does whatever sound forge does and better! its a powerhouse music production specially for loop based-foundry-acid-compatible-etc-type: there is even a rythm sampler, basically you dont even need the keyboard anymore ! i think its the best. and dont discard the midi features too!

As far as a digital audio recording goes, I recommend you check out Cool Edit Pro2:

It has more comprehensive audio editing capabilities than even Sonar (which I also own). Cool Edit Pro2 also has awesome loop support (great for dance grooves), and supports multi track recording as well (with up to 128 tracks of audio playback). Soundforge's multi-track recording capabilities is very limited compared to Cool Edit Pro2. Cool Edit Pro2 also supports midi editing, though not as comprehensive as Sonar offers. I just recently switched form SoundForge & Sonar to Cool Edit Pro2 and (so far) find it very powerful & easier to use than the others.

Keyboard Magazine reviewd Cool Edit Pro2 in their August 2002 issue and gave it a thumbs up!

I have not tried the PSR-740, but I do have the PSR2000 (Y2K) and I like it , kind`a.
It is a fine sounding KB and I love the "Organ" sounds. I would have to agree that a Y2K would be a good choice. It is a newer KB in fact it is the replacement for the 740 so , YES get the Y2K you won`t regret it. There are some "quirks" but they are not so bad as to make the baord a "pain" . The only complaint that I have is with the construction, I just wish they put a better "keyboard" on the KB !!
O-BTW, Welcome to our family and the best corner of the web !! The people are , as you can tell, great and are always ready to help and we all "pitch in as best we can" .
