I had a couple near accidents with my pole mounts falling (these crazy elderly people like to run around, combined with lazy activity assistants who sit in the back of the room and stuff their faces instead of doing their jobs and would like to explore setting up my PA speakers as floor mounts.

I'd like to use (2) powered monitors.

Anyone do this?
Does the sound carry nicely as mount speakers do?

Zuki..you can do that but some carpeted rooms will give you TOO MUCH bass....which you will have to EQ the Pa....another thing is the sound gets trapped up front with floor monitors ....

I use both approaches depending on the rooms layout......or a good alternative why not look into the Bose system many here on SZ swear by it!

I suggest you pole mount your speakers behind you, that way, the dancers have to get through you before they get to the speakers!

If the stands are black, you might also try getting some white tape (or paint) and doing a barber-pole stripe up each leg. It makes it a LOT easier to see. Most people that stumble over your gear will tell you 'I just didn't see it'...

You put speakers on the floor, and the minute anyone dances in front of you, there goes the sound...

I am still not sure why the Bose fans keep continuing to offer a $1500+ solution to a 50¢ problem...

That's an awfully expensive alternative to the question (and still has never resolved the stereo issues that many post about). Plus, what happens when someone dances into an L1? You trying to tell me they are harder to knock over than a tripod-mounted speaker?

Diki, I put my speakers behind me and close to keep things as safe as possible. But there are still those STUPID people who constantly move about the room and get into areas they're not supposed to.

I occasionally sign waivers in job advance against possible liabilities such as a fallen speaker, etc.

From the comments, it sounds as if the floors would definitely be less effective - quality sound wise.

Gary, L1 = expensive. (I know, what is more expensive than a suit and I think I'd give up stereo?

Please allow me to correct my above statement.

The STUPID people are really innocent elderly who love music and is no fault of theirs.

The STUPID people are the assistants who don't take their jobs seriously and police the room to stave off potential problems.

uh....yep!
!
Also, the Bose can be places well out of high traffic areas and still fill the room. ANY room.
BTW - 50 cents won't buy or fix anything that I know of.
