Synthzone family & friends,

I know this is WAY off topic, but I recently purchased my 1st digital camera (Canon Powershot G2) and have begun to explore the world of digital photography. Thought you guys might be interested in seeing some of the pics I've taken with it: http://pbase.com/scottyee

Your comments would be much appreciated,

Scott

Excellent quality, of course, no technical tricks, but what I really liked A LOT was your perpectives. If we had doubts about your sensivity - and didn't know your music - they would all disappear

Excellent Scott. Can't go wrong with a Canon. I just purchased a the Zr-45mc digital video recorder for my trip to Spain on June 23rd (Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca). It will be a celebration for my 29th wedding anniversary. We'll be there for 2 weeks although I'll be in touch with the forum since I am taking my loptop. Hopefully I'll be able to send some shots for the group to enjoy. Thank god for the Internet!

Now WAIT A MINUTE Scott,

I accept the fact that I’ll never be able to achieve your level of musicianship.
BUT, when you start butting into my territory of photography with these beautiful photos, this has got to STOP!!!

HA -- Just kidding. I took the step into digital myself last fall with the Fuji FinePix Pro. I lets me use all my old Nikon lenses. Lots of fun.

Long live the renaissance man,

Frank

I have one question about these photos: have they been retouched, or are they 'raw' ones? The color and contrast are great!

One more comment about digital photography. The only case where I still prefer my old non-digital reflex camera is for night pictures with a flash light.

Matias & all: Thanks for your kind words and encouragement.

Mario: Yes, I chose the Canon G2 because it got the highest review of all the pro-sumer digicams out there in just about EVERY review I read.

Notlos (Dirk):
A couple of the pics were cropped slightly but all the pics were pretty much what I got out of my 4 megapixel camera. Shot in Large Super fine mode and then resized (reduced in size) to Jpeg 640 x 480 in Photoshop to take up less web space. The camera is a 4 megapixel Caon G2. Highly recommended.

Jedi:
Digital photograhy is a fun new hobby, but music is my WORK and still my #1 life passion. The true world re-nowned legendary Hollywood photographer here is Frank Bez.

Frank, it would be WONDERFUL if you might share a couple of your legendary photograhs with us someday. Did I hear (from a little birdie) that a book may be in the making? If so, please put me first on the list to purchase your book.

Thanks to everyone for your support, everyone needs a hobby, and mine's photography. - Scott

Donny,

Thanks for the support. Look forward to seeing some of 'your' pictures taken with your camera too. Haven't really planned to take pictures at my gigs while performing, but it's certainly a possibility. It's just ONE more thing to have to remember to drag to the gig. Guess I really need one of those ultra tiny compact pocketable type cameras like the Canon Elph, the camera equivilent to my compact lightweight Yammy PSR2000.

Btw, in the midst of all the PSR2000 controversy going on here on the forum, I'm still enjoying the PSR2000 a lot. It seems to be holding up real well (so far). I have admittedly been lightening up my gig schedule recently though. I guess we all need a rest now and then to avoid burn out, and the photography has given me a fresh perspective on creativity.

Can you elaborate on this strategy?

Donny, I've only cutback, not quit performing. I just felt I needed some time away to catch my breath and focus on other things and come back with a renewed spirit & outlook. As an entertainer yourself, I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about, right? I just have too many things I want to do, and only so many hours in a day. Thankfully my clients have been pretty understanding and have even guaranteed a spot for me when I return.

Your pictures are wonderful!
The Calfornia scenery brought back many fond memories of my military stay in the early sixties in Petaluma, CA. One of these days perhaps this year I will get back to vacation in your beautiful area.
Thanks for sharing.

Excellent pictures, Scott. You were able to do the most difficult thing of all for a photographer: capture the light.
Matias is right: you are a very sensitive man and I am proud to be your friend.

Scott,

Beautiful shots and great choice of gears! I'm thinking of getting the same cam myself... Where did you get yours and what accessories did you get with it? Any recommendations?

Hi Henry,

Thanks for your kind words. I got the G2 (new black version) at Canoga Camera in Southern California: http://www.canogacamera.com/ I think they offer terrific prices and excellent service to boot. In Toronto, Canada (where you live, right?) I hear that Henry's Camera's (at Church/Queen Streets) is the best place to get it : http://www.henrys.com

In addition to the Canon Powershot G2, I also purchased a Canon Speedlite 420Ex external flash, Velbon Maxi 343E portable tripod, LensMate brand lens adapter: http://www.lensmateonline.com
to accomodate add on lens: Olympus A28 wide angle, and a few assorted filters (Hoya HMC: macro closeup, polarizer, and UV). I purchased the speedlite flash & tripod from J&R Music in the BIG apple (NYC) and was very happy with their prices & service as well. All this ended up burning quite a hole in my pocket, but I'm happy. Henry, let me know what you end up getting. - Scott

RicRob & Dreamer. Thanks for your words of support.

RicRob:
You may not recognize Petaluma from the early 60's as it has really grown a lot from its' days as a small chicken & farming town. It's still beautiful there though as well as in the surrounding upscale Wine Country area. You'll definitely have to make a special return trip to Northern California and go winery hopping.

Andrea: I know you're gonna really enjoy your upcoming June return trip to California. There will be lot of things to take in: Monterey, SF, Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Country, Lake Tahoe, and on and on . . . Looking forward to the opportunity of finally meeting. Too bad you can't bring along your new SD1 too (or will you?) - Scott

Awesome photos Scott! I had a lot of fun looking at those photographs...not only are you a talented musician, but you are also a talented photographer!

I really enjoyed those photos! I think it would be cool for you to take pictures for CD covers or for something like that! The quality of those photos was just simply amazing - I liked the "Fence Post", "Yes You Can...", "Car & Fence", "Ocean View", "Spring Carpet", and many more! Again, you could create CD covers for musicians! What do you think about that idea? Just a suggestion!

And I'm glad that you are still enjoying your PSR2000! My new Yamaha PSR740 (I still cannot believe that we actually own it! ) does everything that I need it to do and it is just a dream! I realize how blessed I am to even own a keyboard and before I owned the Yamaha PSR740, I would just dream about owning one constantly. And, now that I own the Yamaha PSR740, I am so thankful everyday that I play it...it is a miracle! It is just incredible - it offers the entire world of music in one keyboard! I cannot believe that everyone did this for me and now I can actually share my music with you all!

Again, awesome photographs Scott! GREAT JOB! Keep on taking those photos and feel free to share some more with us! See you around Scott!
Ryan

Scott,
Canoga Camera is about 1/2 mile from my house. I've been shopping there for over 30 years. It's a small world!

Ryan and DanO,
Thanks for the kind words of support regarding my pics. Ryan, interestsing idea about shooting CD covers for musicians. Well.. I might start with my own CD first and see what happens... if my CD flops, I'll blame it on the photographer.
Dan, I just listened to the 3rd tune you sent me. Nice. Thanks. I assume you're releasing all these songs on an album. Want me to shoot your CD cover photo? (just kidding).

George: Yeah, Canoga Camera's is one hell of a terrific store which offers both the best prices in the Country and also the best service anywhere. Do you know Greg, the sales manager? He's a great guy.
