One of the checks I received from a UK member attending the SynthZone Jam presents some interesting problems. I now can understand what the guy in Spain was talking about regarding sending in his deposit for this Synthzone Jam.
I took all the checks to the bank yesterday to deposit and clear them. I was advised by the bank manager that the UK check in Pounds Sterling would have to be placed with a clearing house for collection. This will take 6 to 8 weeks to clear it and it will be subject to fees depending on the check and their fee schedule. The manager was unable to quote me the fee from the clearing house, until they receive the check.
That said you are now warned do not send me Checks drawn on foreign banks in foreign currency. Place the equivelent amount of your country cash in tin foil, wrap in paper and mail it to me at my address that is in this post. I can easily convert your foreign cash to US dollars.
When you get here do not plan on cashing any checks. You will have no problem with cash or credit cards getting instant conversion cash at any US bank from your Credit Card Advance.
You have to remember that a check is a line of credit and is not money, until it is paid by your bank.
I hope this info will help those of you on foreigh soil that are planning on attending.
We are now short 5.00 for the deposit. ANYBODY GOT A CHECK IN THE MAIL FOR ME?? I hope

Sorry I haven't yet sent the extra $10 I said I would. I have been sick in bed with flu and have to catch up with things now I am up and about again. It'll be in the mail over the next day or so.

Really sorry to hear you are down with the flu. We both had it this year and it was a bad one. Hope you are in full recovery mode now.
We are setting a new record of 80 degrees today here in San Jose, so maybe if you go out in the sun it will cook out of you. It is bound to be hot down at your place too, you are not that far away from us.

I just got a letter from my bank manager and she advised me they now have a much quicker method of clearing foreign soil checks so it will no longer be a problem for us or you.
She sent me a deposit receipt for the 6 pound Uk check I had in the amount of 10.28 USD. Not a bad exchange.
This is a time when many of you can come and visit us because our dollar has been taken way down and your dollar buys twice as much here as it used to. C'mon over and JAM
