I am considering getting the new Behringer PMH880S. A quite a big bang for the buck. Only 20 pounds.

http://www.behringer.com/PMH880S/index.cfm?lang=ENG

BUT, I got to thinking there is a lot of new technology out there and actually all I really need is some small box maybe the size of a guitar effects pedal or an 8-track tape with only a left and right in and out with no knobs, effect, only stereo in and out with 200 or more watts per channel.

Does such a thing exist yet? I say yet, because I believe that the way the new tech is going that if it's not out now I'll bet it will be before long. Perhaps there's some specialty company that is not widely known doing this?

If there is, I think I would like to check it out. If not, the Behringer PMH880S is hard to beat for price, features and weight.

Best

What about a rack mount? They make some single space rack power amps that are really thin, but kinda wide.

That is a nice looking box and the price is very tempting. Go for it and let us know all about it.

Hi cassp

Yes, for $349.00 out the door there is nothing that even comes close to it. Thank goodness for Behringer and the Chinese!

Hi Phil, ya, I had looked into that but doesn't seem to fill the bill. A lot of them weigh a bunch, some smaller thinner ones don't have the power for the money and things like that.

I have a Peavey stereo 1000-watt digital power amp. One rack space, about 9 pounds. Haven't used it in a couple years since I've gone to powered speakers. You can have it for $400 plus shipping.

Here's a new unit from Carvin worth looking at... more $ but 3 amps (stereo + monitor) & 2 effects:

I am surprised at how similar most of the new powered amps are. I have a Mackie 808S and it has the identical molded box and almost exact faceplate as the Carvin and the Behringer. I noticed the Samson and others look identical. Does anyone know if there is a generic ORIGINAL here. Are all of these being made by the same factory?
