The EXR-7 looks very impressive and huge (76 keys) but it does not sound impressive. I demoed the grand piano voice and found it to be exremely harsh. I left it and came back and tried it again, nope. I can't believe how bad it is. I would say it's worse then the EXR-3/5, which sounds digital to me. I didn't go any further then that. Too disapointed.
The PSR3000 was under the PSR1500 so could easily compare voices. The grand piano on both was just delicious, although they sounded identical to me. They also had a used PSR1000 for sale at 1/2 price. The PSR1500/PSR3000 pianos are noticeably ugraded. Organs are good. This is the 1st time I have ever heard the soprano sax. Wow, what a wonderful voice. I guess this is very subjective, but I prefered that voice on the PSR1500 over the PSR3K??? On the 1K it sounded mellower and just sings. On the 3K it was a bit brighter with more bite. I assume the PSR1000 does not have a sweet soprano sax?
I just realized I didn't try out styles with mega voices
I want a PSR1500.

It could well be that the internal E.Q. was set differently on the keyboards, making the sax sound brighter.

Don M is right.
You can turn a voice mellow or bright with
small E.Q. adjustments.

Starkeeper,
As you probably know I own the EXR-7. I agree with you to some extent, but I want to explain some things about the EXR-7:
The internal speaker system sounds very harsh on all tones. When I'd bought it and put it up and turned it on, I felt exactly the same as you. It was not a pleasant feeling when you knew you'd paid a lot of money for it (I hadn't been able to test it before). Anyway, when I connected my good headphones, the sound was totally different (maybe due to the increased bass). Most of the sounds sound really good through headphones.
So my conclusion is: the on-board speakers are bad, or at least, not really designed for the sounds the keyboard is meant to produce and as the EXR-7 has no EQ, there isn't much to do about it, but I'm still happy with my EXR-7.

The first piano on the PSR1500 and the first piano on the PSR3000 are very different. If you really listen to both playing the same notes, you will hear much more "stuff" in the 3000. There is a great deal more samples in the 3000 live grand piano.

If it sounds good through headphones, then it might sound good through a good sound system? Doesn't anyone at Roland have ears? If they couldn't produce a good sound sytem, they could have sold it without one with a lower price tag.
P.S. The Roland was about $200.00cdn lower then the PSR1500.

I was thinking the same thing.sound wise it's hard to believe that it has only 16 mb rom.only few styles less than 3k.
versatily wise it beats the competition both korg and roland.piano and sax are just ear pleasing for that price arranger.
may be you should pick up a used digitech vocalist(150-200$) and get a 1500(online 999$ with no tax+z stand+pedal/AKG head phones or go to a dealer who can give you real discount(where they do 8-10% minimum discount).

another good thing about 1500 is it has same dsp s as 3k (I believe) and mod wheel(finally yam is getting wise after not selling 640,1k and 1100).

1500 won't get old at lease for 5 yrs.(versatility, portability) for 400-500$ you can always get used Trinity or k2000s.Cause

though I like what it does I still think 3k is a little over priced for it's built quality.it should be 1199$ like 2100.

same is true when you compare pa 80 (4 speakers) and 50/60 (2 cones).play the same patch pa 50 sounds dull and a bit canned when pa 80 is rich and clear.yes internal speaker quality matters alot and it's a major selling point.

The dealers in Toronto, Canada will not lower their prices. I am not aware of any music instrument discounters on the web in Canada. I would have to pay customs duty if I order from the U.S. If any one has any suggestions. I'm Listening. Makes me think, this is a business opportunity.

There has been a lot of effort on making the Mega Voices and to make the styles work with them. OK, the 3K is a cheaper version of the Tyros, where the technique was introduced, so they didn't have to put much effort into the 3K (other then making more MegaVoice styles), but also the polyphony was doubled and sound improved, so IMHO the price difference between the PSR2100 when it was first released and the PSR3000 is justified.
And the keys on the PSR3K are only 30% cheesy instead of 40% (PSR2100)
But they way you feel about it, jamman, you must think the Tyros is a real ripp-off

Oh, by the way I paid 1575 euro's for my PSR3K, including 19% tax (VAT or BTW as we call it). Tyros is still more than twice that price. But .... it will go down as soon as Tyros II lands.....if it will EVER land!
