Is the MFC10 the only foot controller that will work with the Tyros? It would be nice to have more foot switch options but there's gotta be something less expensive. Any input will be appreciated.

I don't know how well it would work but I have been looking at the Behringer FCB1010 Midi foot controller for some time. It costs a lot less than the MFC10 and seems to provide more:

Scott Yee mentioned to me that he was thinking of selling his MFC10. I would think that the MFC10 would be preferable since Yamaha made the Tyros with consideration for interfacing the MFC10, and you should be able to program it more easily.

Good luck tap dancing

Hi Beakybird,

Thanks for the heads up. I did get a message from Scott and am in touch with him. I'm not sure I have enough feet to work an MFC10. Then again I'm not sure I can figure out the Tyros manual either.

Richard,
the MFC10 is set up to work with 10 preset banks in the Tyros. If you go into the midi page and select a preset for the foot controler, there is another tab called MFC10. Going to this page you can see how all the buttons are factory pre programed on the Tyros. The Behringer, which is about 1/2 the price can be programmed to work but will need some work.

Before purchasing the Yamaha MFC10 I too had seriosuly considered purchasing another brand midi foot controller for my Tyros & PSR2000 keyboards. The fact is, ONLY the Yamaha MFC10 fully supports the Tyros many arranger functions, as well as includes a dedicated Tyros setup display screen which allows you to very easily select/assign to each of the numerous pedals on the MFC10, a full range of Tyros functions from the Tyros display screen itself. This is covered on page 148 of the Tyros Owner's manual.

In contrast, other brand midi foot controller units require extensive midi programming, and ALSO, a number of the Tyros functions CANNOT even be activated by 'other brand' midi foot controllers because they only reconginze Yamaha specific midi data, which is only reconginzed by the Yamaha MFC10, not by 'other brand' or model midi foot controllers.

The only reason I'm selling my MFC10 is because it's a bit cumbersome to take out for daily gigging. On the other hand, for home & studio work, as well as special event gigs, I think the MFC10 is a TERRIFIC solidly constructed unit (built like a tank) which allows you trigger 'on the fly' a vast array of Tyros arranger functions via your feet leaving your hands free to play the keyboard.

Thanks for the good input. It's much appreciated. I took your collective advice and bought the one Scott had for sale. I'm sure it will be fun to play with, that is, learning as well as playing.
