I am considering thd triton due to its low price. What i need to know is since it cant take sound expansion boards how much internal stuff does it have for indian or arabic music.. By that i mean drum kits that have tabla etc. I was told its in the world section? But how many are there (loops, drum kits). And how do its bread and butter sounds compare to pa1x? Can u create tabla loops and trigger it by a key?

Hi, the triton Le i sa nice board, but only has a SAMPLER option as an expansion, NO boards, the Triton Studio it takes up to 6 or 7 boards....and in tone generation, teh PA1Xs have teh RX technology not available in the Tritons...RX = Mega voices more or less....and oof course, those acoustic guitars are incredible !!! in the PA1Xs...so they are VERY different.
You can create a Tabla kit on teh SAMPLER options in teh T LE....but it will have it's limitations due to you can not add a lot of memory, and that my friend, may be the issue, good high resolution and multiple samples may take a lot of memory.
Remember that, who buys cheap, buys twice.

Well put there

rolandfan,
The Triton Le is a nice board. Truly an excellent beginners synth. It has the Triton sound engine, but not all the bells and whistles you'll find on a regular Triton. Sounds are alwasy subjective. Korgs acoustic sounds aren't bad at all. Everyone has their personal tastes in this category.

The Le has a great sequencer (well above all keyboards in the $1,000 price range). It also has great voice editing options too. Even though it doesn't have the ability to load voice expansion boards, you can still add a sampler. If memory serves me correctly I think it only has (one) insert effect available for a performance/song. However, you can still adjust individual reverb, and chorus settings on each track/part.

Overall a great synth for the money. It is exactly as advertised..., "A Triton For Those On A Budget".

Yep it has one insert effect. Ive never had a synth before. i dont think korg have a card with indian tabla and instruments. If i go for roland xp60 i can install the asia expansion board. But it wont have the triton sound engine. Will check out the le one more time and see what can be done with what its already got in the world section. Thanks for the replies

Hey don't dismiss the XP-60 Even though it's a bit dated, that's still an awsome synth. The power behind the XP is in the expansion boards. The internal samples themselves are really good too. It's got a good sequencer, good voice editing, To be honest I'd take an XP-60 over a Korg Triton LE any day of the week. Here's why.

-The Roland has 61 (semi-weighted keys). The Rolands key feel makes the Korg Triton LE look like a $99.00 Casio.

-The Roland has nonstop loop recording (cool feature)

-The Roland has great voice expansion

-The XP-60 is built like a tank. This board wasn't a cheap synth when first released. It is rock solid and sold for around $1,600. It's also not a budget synth either.

-The XP-60 has good real-time control (better in my opinion than the Triton LE)

Overall I think the XP-60 (being that it was and still is a professional synth) will give you more bang for the buck. You'll get the sounds you want via expansion boards (something the LE cannot do.)

By the way I used to own an XP-60. Have to say one of the easiest sequencers I've ever used, and the OS isn't difficult either.

Regards,
Squeak

Before I forget: The harmonica on the XP-60 is classic "Stevie Wonder". Great sound for his songs. The Grand Piano is also nice.

agree with almost everything that has been said.
i also used to play a xp60, and occasionally still do, and i had a short affair with a t le.
i have to agree i liked xp more... but probably just because i was used to it...
i didn t hate the le's keyboard, and i thought the sounds were ok... but in an end, just to "synthy" for me...
...now i realized that if i am not going to use an arranger too much, the best way to go is computer-midi-softsynth-controller.
huge array of possibilities.
