I'm a songwriter/guitar player with a compact ADAT studio.
I'm torn between buying KORG N5 and Alesis QS 6.1:
Alesis - expandability, sampling, semi-weighted keyboard
KORG - darker sounds, arpeggiator

I've heard that there's a N5EX coming out.
What does it have?
18MB ROM, weighted keys.........??

Nothing on the KORG website.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

ok, so the N5ex has an extra 6MBs of sounds, a MUCH better stereo grand, more organs, etc..

but apart from that it's the same as the straight N5, no weighted keys, no extra arpeggiator programs.

It's the same memory as the N1 and N1R, but in a handy N5 sized case!!!

I have recently purchaced a N5ex and so far I am very impresed. The extra 6MB of ROM makes the N5ex a N1 with a N5 look. The multi mode is very good (I use it with Cubase VST on a mac) the arpegiator is average and is probably more of a sales gimic!
The real time controlers are a nice addition adding a analouge LIKE function. However the canges in Cutoff/Freq are not to smooth.
Over all I highly recomend this keyboard!
