Hi All,

I have a PA1x and just have one problem with the board...THE WEIGHT. I was looking at the PA800 due to the weight factor but apart from that..are both boards alike. What would I miss if I bought the PA800 and sold the PA1x. Please comment.

Cheers,
SUNNY

Hello:

I know you may miss the dedicated sliders/drawbars....but in exchange, you gain more poliphony, more RX sounds, new sound engine in MOST areas, also you will NOT miss the dated Floppy disk, instead, you get access to a the fastest USB 2.0 .....with more capacity...also, more memory for the sampler if you use it.
I really like my PA800, had it since it came out, I have installed the latest OS. Works just Great!!!.
I did not own a PA1X, but, at the store where I used to work, I played a lot too, not as much as the PA800 or my T2.

If you use the sampling feature for loading samples larger than 32mb then the pa800 has an obvious advantage although the sampler is exactly the same in terms of its functionality, also the polyphony is larger (128 notes compared to 62 on the PA1X). However for live use the sliders on the PA1X come in so much more handy for controlling volumes, and organ bars in real time. The PA800 does not have these manual sliders and to my mind that was a silly ommission by korg.

Lastly the PA1X has a better speaker system in terms of the inbuilt speakers when compared to the PA800 and also a better vocal harmoniser.

Now that the version 3 has come out on he PA1x it is even harder to choose between them but i am convinced you wil have a blast no matter which one you keep

Absolutely agree with you there, Spalding 4. One of the chief reasons I've held on to my i30 for so long is the nine sliders and associated play/mute buttons.

If Korg ever comes out with a 'Pa800 Mk.II', or whatever, with nine sliders, it'll get my vote. Look at all the negativity Korg got by dropping the sliders when they brought out the Pa80, etc. I don't think it was any coincidence that they reintroduced them on the Pa1X, Pa1XPro, and I must say I was surprised when they reduced the number of sliders with the introduction of the Pa800.

That said, it may have been a deliberate move on their part in order to bring back nine sliders on a future 'Pa800 Mk.II', or whatever. How's that for optimism - are you listening Mr. Trammanoni?

I think we should bear in mind that the PA800 isn't a replacement for the PA1X but rather the PA80.

I think the PA80 only had one assignable slider and the new PA800 now has two so is therefore an improvement on it's predecessor.

The PA1X is still the flagship Korg arranger and when it's replacement is released it may well have all of the new benefits of the PA800 and eight assignable sliders too.
