Maybe someone with more knowledge on editing songs in the PSR2000 can be of help, because I'm sort of frustrated at the moment.

In song creator /1-16 section, there are many ways to edit a song.
The choices are overwhelming...
Prog, A.T. ....
In the Ctrl section alone there are 127 different banks, data, etc. etc.

With a little...VERY LITTLE.... help from the manual and / or the data book, I was able to figure out some of these functions. But for MOST , I have no idea what changes are made if for example I select :

Ctrl >5 Port Time ..what the heck is Port Time?
or
Ctrl > 6 Data MSB .. Don't know what MSB stands for. Must be another Yamaha secret.
or
What does Ctrl 25 edit ?
or many many more Ctrl choices, all of which are unknown to me

Some are simple..Volume, Panpot, Modulation, etc. However for the majority of these edit choices, it would be nice to know what they represent.

So my question is..Is there someplace that I can find out what the full meaning is for the abbreviations in the Song Creator. Yes I did try the PSR Tutorial Site, and other places, but nowhere could I find anyplace to explain these abbreviations, and what they actually do to edit a song in Song Creator 1-16

Also, a question in a question...

This all started when I wanted to transpose a section of a recorded song within the middle of the song, using song creator, but gave up trying to decipher the secret Yamaha codes. Can this be done?

Thanks, I feel a little better already.
Larry

Hi Larry,
sometimes it's safer not touch some of the controllers unless you know exactly what it is you want to do.
A lot of the ones you've mentioned I've never heard of either.
The only ones I'm game to alter are

7 volume
10 pan
11 expression
91 reverb
93 chorus
patch, msb & lsb ( bank & program changes).
and of course notes.

Hopefully someone can help you.

best wishes
Rikki

( sorry Larry, I called you Ian, but I've changed it, must have had a bad day haahaa)

Rikki's right. If you don't know, don't touch!

You can find a midi spec here http://www.midi.org/about-midi/specshome.shtml which explains the codes.

The ones I find useful are Expression and the filter adjustment ones, and I occasionally mess with attack and release time.

Expression is a "relative volume" control. I use it to adjust the volume of a track in a midi file without embedding volume change message. If you emberd volume change messages it becomes very tedious when remixing a file if you want to take a track up or down throughout, bcause you have to edit all embedded track volume messages.

Also MSB means "Most Significant Byte" and LSB means "Least Siginificant Byte". I'm not sure the 2k responds to this anyway, I find most parameter changes I use on Yamaha kit involves System Exclusive and at this point you are in bother because I don't think the on-board sequencer lets you edit SysEx.

Have a play with a PC sequencer such as Sonar; its a darn sight easier IMHO.

Thanks for the help.

I was trying to add a Dsp1 > Rotary SP > Rotary SP5 to a flat organ voice in Channel 1 at a particular spot of a song I quick recorded on the PSR2000.

Also, is there anyway to transpose a song at a particular point in a song using Song Creator? I cannot find anyway of doing that, and I'm not sure how to achieve that with Cakewalk.

Thanks again
Larry

Hi Larry,
sorry I'm not much help as I own neither a psr2000 or cakewalk. Is that the only software sequencer you own? You don't happen to be an omb 8, xgworks or pg powertracks pro owner?

That dsp1 is that a button you can press? IF so, maybe you could record the "press" & check the event list editor to see what comes up. It's a long shot.

I did notice something about msb66 lsb18 (in a psr 2k manual I downloaded. Not sure how it fits in though.

Hi Rikki,

I haven't talked to you since the KN7000 days. I remember your nice style and pad work.

DSP is a button you press on the 2000 keyboard along with a seperate variation button.
Your idea of recording the "press" is a great one. Why didn't I think of that? I'll give it a go, and see what happens.

I don't have OMB, or the other sequencers mentioned. Would they allow me to make transpose changes, and add DSP effects in a song? Cakewalk probably has the means to do way more then I know. I need to get into it more, as I never really tried.

I'll see if I can find out what msb66 lsb18

Hi Larry,
Cakewalk should be able to transpose parts. As I don't have the program, I can't help.
OMB does, but the sequencer in it is fairly basic. XG Works is no longer available.
If you know what it is that you need to add, again Cakewalk should probably allow you to do it.

If you want to send me a short midifile, I could check and see if omb sequencer keeps it in tact ie all the controllers , program changes etc and I could try transposing a bar or 2 and send it back to you.

OMB is the program I use to use to help me convert psr styles for the kn7 by using the midi to style function in the kn.

Actually it's a great style editor for psr's.

If you decide to , pop it in a zip folder as sometimes bigpond rejects attachments

To transpose just a section in Cakewalk, I tend to split the track(s) into clips at the points at which the transpose is to start / end. This is more precise than just selecting all the tracks and then subselecting a timezone, because sometimes you want to transpose a note that starts before the transpose of other tracks.

Having split the tracks, select the ones you want to transpose (ctrl-click) and use the Edit-Transpose facility.

And rememeber not to transpose drum / percussion tracks!
