I found this board earlier today and have so far been pretty impressed! One question though, is it possible to connect the board to your comp via midi, record the sounds and edit into tracks, save as a midi file onto the smart media card and have it play on the board while I accompany it? My idea is that for live gigging i can play complex songs and play at the same time.

Thanks!

Phil

The XP-30 is basically a performance synth. It does not have a sequencer, and I could be wrong, but I don't remember it having any ability to play anything from smart media. The board is in the XP series which consist of the XP-30/50/60/80. It has tons of sounds, great key feel, good construction, and more. Again it's primarily a performance synth.

If you play live gig, have you considered arranger keyboard instead of playing off midi file ?

Arranger has features so that it's more attuned for playing live and can change on the fly to increase or decrease the energy level. I play live all the time (volunteer at church) playing contemporary high energy songs (rock, etc) and I tell you arranger is the way to go. With MIDI, you are stuck with what u pre-arranged.

lukitoh, I actually dont think that midi would be that bad. All the songs I will play will be pre done and perfected. I plan on using the board for a band. So is it possible to play the midi file on the board while I play at the same time? Thats pretty much all I want. If I got an arranger id need to find a roland EM-55 for around 400$ O yeah and how old is the board?

Thanks!

Phil

xp's SM is for sounds(performance and programs, global sets only).you can not play a midi file.you need a computer to it.(use it as a module). No seq or playback feature(like JV-50) is included in xp 30.

Thanks allot jamman you really cleared it up and saved me hehe, i have really close to buying it

Can you reccomend a good used board that will do what I want? It needs to have mixed song playback via 3 1/2 or media cards and it has to have a very wide range of sounds with good techo styles. Preferably a used roland. Possibly a korg if I can find something cheap enough.

Thanks!

Phil
