Hi, can someone kindly help me out on something ive never been able to do on the X1!

Basically I just want the keyboard to remember settings i like to use when turning it off/on, eg, what sounds i set up etc..

Is it in the registration banks? Because even though i save it, when turning it on it still resets back to factory... I really would love this thing to switch on with my own settings rather than pressing 1000 buttons each time before play!

Thanks very much for any help...

Danny

Hi DannyUK, Welcome Back! It's been quite a while since we've heard from you, so it's great to see you posting on the forum again. We've missed you. Unfortunately I can't answer your question regarding the X1, but since you brought it up, I'm curious if the SD1 and XD9 supports the same thing you're asking about on the X1. - Scott

hi ya! nice of you to reply!! as i posted something here last week but nobody bothered to reply so i thought i had lost all the guys a i knew here.. but glad to hear from you! been through a rocky patch what with being made redundant and hard to find another suitable job within IT, so within the last month i have sat down and seriously started to use the X1 like ive never down before (now that ive been given the chance), and the thing still blows me away as much as it did when i first bought it 3 years ago!..

but this query i have with saving settings, i can see the settings and i actually select SAVE, but when turning the keyboard off/on to test, it simply resets to factory.. i save it as REG_001 but it does not load it.. unless im doing something wrong??

But its been nice to get back into music, as since i bought the X1, my job has always been first priority along with the children, the keyboard was used maybe once a month, and id forget a lot of things, even have become very rusty with my performances, but ive spent a good whole month solid and the X1 feels like a new keyboard again!

So heres some money saving advice, buy a keyboard, dont use it for 2 years and go back to it! lol...

Danny,
whatever you program in registration #1 this is the sound that will come on (and the style) when you turn your keyboard on. Also on the X1 there is a function when pushing the save/enter button called power on set up. When you select this, all of the functions you set up under utility and things like which hard disk folder will come on when you turn on the keyboard, and which fingering mode you want on, and other such functions will be remembered next time you turn on the keyboard if you push the power on settings function and then push save (F10). However, if all you want is a certain style and a certain sound, you only need to save these settings in registration 1. do you know how to save registrations? Set it up the way you want it, press save/enter, then press the function button next to the word registration, then make sure you have selected registration #1 and push execute, are you sure? then save.

George,

How did i know you were going to pop up and be my saviour! How the devil are you! Nice to hear from you again.

Right, the method you describe I have actually tried before believe it or not, however, i forgot one very important ingredient in which you clearly explain - and thats when selecting the registration button to actually select 01! and then the settings activate... DOH.. gosh i feel so dumb..

The power on save thing i have also tried before but it seems to work now! so double DOH on my part....

This may be a 3rd DOH, but i was kinda hoping that all the settings under REG 001 come up automatically without having to select it? for example, turn it on and have the keyboard exactly as you left it, sounds styles as well... as it stands, its very good, but i still need to press a couple of buttons to get where i want to be, is this normal or am i still doing something wrong??

Lastly, do these settings last forever? Or do they reset once you leave the power off from the keyboard for a period of time...

Once again, thanks very much for your help George and its been a pleasure to hear from you again...

Danny...

The SD1 & XD9 work the 'same' way, right? I only wished Yamaha would have listened to Ketron on this one. - Scott

Friends,

The SD1 and XD-series also have the Power On Set up feature (thanks George for that clear explanation).
However, via default (irrespective of Registration 001 settings or Power On Set up features), the keyboard will always boot up with the sounds and styles as pre-determined in/by the OS. This is usually the first sound (Piano) and Style (except for the XD series where the initial style is not the first one. We did this to clearly demonstrate our drum loops/drum 2 in the selected default style instead).
Thanks,
AJ
