Terry, I understand how you're able to initially record your vocals while monitoring the drum intro & midi backing sequence played back on your Tyros, but how are you able to keep the Tyros midi sequence playback and vocals recorded on the multi-track recorded 'in sync' on playback ? Which play button do you press first (the Tyros sequencer's or the Digital Recorder), and exactly 'when' do you press each of them.
At what point in the recording process are you recording the Tyros midi sequence backing tracks to the Digital Multitrack Recorder. As I choose to remain in the midi domain when mixing the midi tracks, I prefer waiting till all vocal & non midi tracks have been recorded before recording the final stereo midi mixdown to the Digital Recorder. This being the case, I would think it not possible to accurately sync up (by ear) the stereo midi mixdown to other already recorded tracks on the Digital Multitrack recorder. Might I be missing something in your explanation?
I believe that syncing up the Tyros to the Digital Recorder (via Midi Clock, MTC, or MMC) is really the only foolproof solution to keeping both units 'in sync' both during recording, and on playback. It's my asssumption that the Tyros only supports Midi Clock, but not MTC or MMC sync methods. Can anyone confirm if this is true?
This being the case, I'm still hoping to get some clarification on exactly how the Tyros must be set up to act a slave to my Digital Recorder (Korg D1200mkII).
To further clarify my midi connection/setup: I have a midi cable connected from the Korg D1200mkII Digital Recorder's mid out socket to the "Midi-A: IN" socket of my Tyros keyboard. On the Tyros, I have the selected the following midi preset configuration template: Function> Midi > "Clock Ext A". It's my understanding that with this setup configuration, after loading a midi file into the song sequencer and then pressing the sequencer's 'start/stop' button, that this button would then light-up or flash 'in waiting' for an incoming signal (from the Korg Digital Recorder) to triger it to begin playing. My Tyros song sequencer's start/stop button doesn't light-up or flash after I press it. Is there something wrong with my keyboard, or do I still not have things set up properly on my Tyros keyboard to perform in slave mode? Also, what settings need to be made on the Korg D1200mkII to make this work? I hope someone can help me here. Thanks.
Scott

Update: I've made a small bit of progress in my saga of figuring out how to get the Tyros to sync to my Digital Recorder. I set my Digital Recorder to: Master Clock. I also tried setting the D1200mkII recorder to transmit MMC as well as not to transmit MMC. It doesn't appear to matter which MMC setting I chose. Either way, I discovered that the Tyros sequencer's 'Start/Stop' button (when in midi :Ext Clock mode) doesn't even have to be pressed (armed) in order for it to recognize a couple of remote commands (play & stop) from the D1200. In addition, the Tyros midi sequence plays at the same tempo the D1200 is set to. The disappointing thing is that when the D1200's 'Stop' button is pressed, the D1200 recorder pauses at the current location, but the Tyros midi sequencer returns to the beginning of the song.
I only wish I now could get the Tyros to 'remain locked in sync' with the Digital Recorder, whenever the Digital Recorder's Stop button is pressed, or when changing to any location point in the song.
Because I'm only able to trigger the basic 'start' & stop/return function on the Tyros Sequencer from my Digital Recorder, I'm wondering if this is only because I still don't have the Tyros properly configured for remote Ext Clock control yet or if my keyboard is deffective.
I'm hoping some of you Tyros owners out there might try performing a simple test on your Tyros for me to see if the problem exists only on my Tyros or if it's a universal problem with all Tyros'.
1) Go to: Function > Midi , and select 'Midi Ext. A' 2) Load a Midi Song into the Tyros Sequencer 3) Press the Song Sequencer's "Start/Stop" button 4) Report back to let me know if the "Start/Stop" button's indicator lights (or flashes) when pressed.
Thanks in advance for feedback on this.
Scott

Hi Scott, me again, just in case you don't have any luck and the Tyros sequencer doesn't do what you want, have you tried using a software sequencer to do what you're doing and just use the Tyros as a sound module. You may have a bit more controll over it. If you don't actually have one, there's demo's online of PG Music's Powertracks , so you could actually try before you buy. I think it retails for under $30 at the moment. I was never overly fond of my 9000 pro's sequencer I think some of the brain cells must have died when I read the Technics announcement. I'm now confusing audio signals with midi signals. Might have worked with your if your digital recorder had been a synth module ( haahaa) it must have been that "midi out" that confused me. I think I need to lay down and give the o'l brain a rest. Read the specs on your Korg recorder, wow, it's amazing what they can do nowadays. I usually avoid reading about new stuff, just in case I get tempted and buy something I want, but don't really need. best wishes Rikki ( ex technology junki) Originally posted by Scottyee: Interesting concept, but I don't know how the recorded drum track can send a signal to trigger the Tyros sequencer to start playing. Rikki, I appreciate your feedback though.
