Hi,
Almost finished is the song 'Ole Keerl' and just wanted to post it here to find out how you guys think about it.

Who is able to tell what keyboard(s) did all instrumental stuff ? (played by me)
Recordings done with CubaseSX3 (by me)
Vocals by a good friend (former rock-musician)

Please feel free to send comments. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=E7EDF6FB060646B5

PS Just realize 'join' in the topic header should be replaced with 'share' ?

Nice clear recording, loved the instruments used and the levels sounded very good.
The ending made me laugh (in a good way), totally unexpected and original. Keep up the good work.

I didn't understand the language (German?) it sounded similar to the song Nothing else matters by Metallica at the beginning.

Craig,

The language is one of the dialects in the Netherlands called 'Drents'.
The song is about an aged man, Gerrit, often walking thru the fields and thinking about his first love who died many years ago.

At the end Gerrit also dies and the brass-march does everyone realize life goes on.
Hope this explains a little the (unexpected) change.
Tnx for your comments Craig.

Any idea what machine did the music ?

This recording, assuming it is done on an arranger keyboard, is undoubtedly the best recording I have ever heard as far as it sounding like actual live instruments for the most part.

I am not going to guess right now which keyboard this might be, but the sound makes it such that I would like to have this keyboard.

Since the rock band sounded so very real I would also like to comment on the parts that while they sounded pretty good, I could tell that it was a keyboard. That would include the vocal harmonizer. Although it sounded pretty good for what it is, to me vocal harmonizers sound fake, all of them, and they always will sound fake. The brass band, although good for a keyboard did not sound as real as the rock band, which really sounds authentic.

Good recording and mixing technique.

I'll be interested to see which instrument this is

Hi, I just listened, I am 99.98 % certain that is the Tyros2, giveaways, sax, drum kit, the brass band, even I do not sing, I think they used the T2 harmonizer.
Well DONE !.

The organs are a giveaway...pure Tyros 2.

Very nice arrangement and use of the sounds.

I liked it a lot.

I listened again. I was surprised I didn't notice the sax the 1st time. So, in the 2nd listening, I'd have to say that it does sound like it is probably a Tyros 2 after paying extra attention to the sax, organ and brass.

That's funny considering I mentioned that this was a keyboard that I would like to have, as I have a Tyros 2

Very nice song indeed; and very well done.

The dialect is almost like platt deutsh (flatt German), a dialect spoken in north Germany.

I could almost understand the lyrics.

Thanks for sharing.

I checked all your previous postings by you using the search facility a few hours ago when I first replied as I thought it was a Tyros 2. I didn't want to put this though as every time I say something good about it I get slated from the Roland users club on here lmao. As long as you don't tell me it's the Mediastation

Hallo

The song is very well played and sung; the arrangement is spot on, with everything in the right place. Congratulations!
The sound quality is excellent; could be a Tyros 2 or a GEM WK8... or maybe the best keyboard ever made : the Roland G 1000!

Hallo Eddie,

Gruss

Scott,
You probably noticed the Antares Autotune (nice plugin) now and than ? I only used it for the lowest voice during verses.

The board of course is ......... the Tyros2 !!

I was wondering that myself.
I'm guessing it was the FEEDBACKER (SA VOICE) with heavy reverb It sounded awesome!

Eric & Dennis the few notes on the E-guitar (oops I forgot to mention this) are played by the singer on his guitar.

All the other stuff is 'pure' Tyros2.
As I started recording I took one take with accompany&drums. (Style ContempRockBld tempo 65) Soon I found out this has huge limitations during mixing the song because there is nothing to mix left

So, after this I started to record every part of the T2-accompany seperately on audiotracks, by muting the not needed.

I ended up with 17 stereo-tracks, each containing an instrument or vocals.

I did not use MIDI.

It's pretty hard to keep the other 'sectret' but Scott is my best SZ buddy and yes Sander we met a few times

thanks for filling us in with the details.
I knew there was something about the e-guitar. That's why I asked.

I played along with your song and was able with some minor tweaking to get the Tyros 2 to sound really similar while playing along with your friends guitar licks.
So I thought that you might have used the SA Feedbacker Guitar. Regardless ...

Really enjoyed your work

Eddie,

I translated the original dialect into normal Dutch and can send it if you like. Because I lost your email address, please send me a message so I can attach the doc to a reply.

Eddiefromrotherham (Eddie) wrote English lyrics, recorded his voice and I did a quick-mixing job : http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=D81F8FC01FD5244F
for uncompressed WAV (45 Mb)

or http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=9033568510B6D192
for MP3 version (6 Mb)

Both Eddie and I are curious what our SZ friends' opinions are. Please feel free to comment !

Eddie & kla4(R.): Thanks guys for sharing the english lyrics version of song. Eddie's experienced (age wise) voice is perfectly suited for this life's reflection song. Ok guys, please provide the english translation of the song's title: 'Ole Keerl'. Well done. I'm definitely adding this one to my iPod & song playlist. btw: R _ _ _ , a big Welcome Back to Synthzone. Hi Scott
many thanks for the thumbs up.
Actually, this morning, I wrote to R--- and forecast that Scott would be one of the first to make a comment , knowing your great supporting qualities.
The nearest translation into english of "olde keerl" would be "old guy".
I had great fun doing it.
cheers
Eddie
Here are the actual english lyrics:-
He wanders by the fields he knew
So well from times before and through
The paths of yesteryear where now
Alone he walks with furrowed brow
And he's thinking

The land he roamed is bare and wild
The hedges rare and long defiled
His friends were gone so long ago
The darkness looms, he has to go
And he's thinking

And then he thinks back to his youth
On bridges sat the girls so smooth
And Gerrit with his strange old hat
Was scorned and not allowed to chat
He knows them all, each one he named
Some died and some still window-framed
In houses down there in the street
Where newer faces fail to greet

It's time to go yet he feels dread
And suddenly his feet are lead
Who lurks there in the twilight zone?
His long lost girl? No he's alone
and he's thinking

He knew that this could not be so
She died alas long years ago
Her face he saw then she was gone
and now he walks here quite alone
and he's thinking

And then he thinks back to his youth
On bridges sat the girls so smooth
And Gerrit with his strange old hat
Was scorned and not allowed to chat
He knows them all, each one he named
Some died and some still window-framed
In houses down there in the street
Where newer faces fail to greet

They saw him rarely in the crowd
His walk was slow, his gait was bowed
They asked "How are you?", his reply
Was always there "My time is nigh"
And he's thinking

We knew that something was amiss
I don't know how to tell you this
He tried and tried to calm his fear
But no.......He is no longer here.......
