We have all had this problem especially in single circuit buildings.

I found this surge protector with built in circuit anlyzer and ground indicator at Cyberguys.com a couple years ago. Great strip because the layout is such that it can accept wall warts without blocking other plugs.



When you have lots of things to plug in it really works well. Additionally, it has a swivel AC plug which allows you to plug it into to wall outlets that may not normally be accessible to standard plugs.
